Job Summary
The Turnaround Coordinator is responsible for coordinating daily field activities during commissioning and startup, ensuring the integrated schedule accurately reflects field progress while identifying and resolving gaps before they impact execution. This role leads daily coordination between commissioning, construction, and vendor teams, maintains schedule integrity, and supports safe, efficient system turnover in a complex industrial facility. Success in this role requires strong field coordination, schedule management, and the ability to align planning with real-time site conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the daily reconciliation of the integrated commissioning schedule against actual field progress.
- Identify and resolve gaps between planned work sequences, punch list status, and field execution across commissioning, construction, and vendor activities.
- Cross-check multiple project tracking systems, including schedules, punch lists, inspection and test records (ITRs), and field observations to ensure alignment.
- Maintain and update the integrated commissioning schedule using Primavera P6 or a comparable scheduling tool.
- Monitor the critical path, identify schedule slippage or scope gaps, and recommend recovery plans.
- Develop and communicate short-interval look-ahead schedules (24-hour, 3-day, and 7-day) for execution teams.
- Lead daily coordination meetings with commissioning, construction, and vendor personnel to align priorities and resolve execution conflicts.
- Conduct daily field walks to verify work progress and identify deviations from the planned schedule.
- Manage the punch list and checklist reconciliation process, ensuring timely closure and accountability.
- Coordinate simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) involving commissioning, construction, energized systems, hot work, confined space activities, crane lifts, and pressure testing.
- Support permit-to-work coordination and track isolation and de-isolation activities, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and blinding/de-blinding processes.
- Track system turnover from construction through commissioning to operations, ensuring inspection records and documentation are complete before startup.
- Monitor labor and equipment resource allocation against project schedules and identify resource imbalances.
- Support cost-loaded scheduling activities and schedule variance reporting in coordination with project controls.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, contractor supervision, operations personnel, and equipment vendors to coordinate daily activities.
- Prepare and deliver clear daily and weekly reports outlining project progress, risks, schedule impacts, and action items.
- Take ownership of resolving field issues by proactively identifying problems, prioritizing corrective actions, and driving solutions to completion.
- Communicate field conditions effectively to both craft personnel and leadership to support timely decision-making.
Required Skills
- Strong schedule coordination and planning skills.
- Ability to reconcile multiple project tracking systems, including schedules, punch lists, inspection records, and field status.
- Experience maintaining integrated schedules using Primavera P6 or equivalent scheduling software.
- Knowledge of commissioning, startup, and turnaround execution in industrial facilities.
- Understanding of rotating equipment, pressure vessels, electrical isolation, and fluid or gas handling systems.
- Experience coordinating simultaneous operations (SIMOPS).
- Working knowledge of permit-to-work systems, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and isolation sequencing.
- Ability to identify schedule risks, critical path impacts, and develop recovery plans.
- Experience with system turnover documentation and inspection/test record (ITR) management.
- Resource planning and schedule variance monitoring skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lead daily coordination meetings and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Comfortable working in extended-hours or 24/7 commissioning environments.
- Experience with SAP PM, Maximo, or similar computerized maintenance management systems (preferred).
- Familiarity with earned value management and KPI reporting, including schedule variance and manpower efficiency (preferred).
- Experience with geothermal, ORC, or renewable power plant commissioning (preferred).
