Duties

Seven Oaks Academy is seeking a caring, motivated and nurturing professional to join our team as a Youth Recreation Assistant

Under general supervision of the Lead Guide, the Youth Recreation Assistant will be responsible for helping to maintain and implement arts, enrichment, and academic programs. The candidate will be the liaison with parents, collaborators, volunteers, and visitors to display the site and the program positively. This position is responsible for assisting with the planning and development of the creative learning environment and preparation of needed materials and supplies.

The Assistant's ability to establish authority through leadership, communication, and most importantly patience, will be required in giving our students the stability and nurturing atmosphere they need to succeed. The Assistant is directly responsible for creating a positive, fun, and educational atmosphere.

Specific performance responsibilities include:
  • Ability to create and implement fun, engaging developmentally appropriate activities in the areas of common core, character development, project-based learning, fitness and recreation, academics/enrichment for youth ages 2 - 6 years old.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting and documenting any injuries or incidents utilizing established Seven Oaks Academy procedures for notification to parents and administration.
  • Maintain cleanliness in all program areas; including the upkeep of the equipment and facility in an acceptable manner and the set-up and breakdown during the program day to contribute to ongoing efforts to keep the Center orderly.
  • Design a site program schedule/calendar together with the Head of School & Parent Engagement Coordinator that includes a variety of educational, enrichment, and recreational activities that align with the needs of Seven Oaks Academy's Montessori curriculum and youth.
  • Assist with parent pick up, recording attendance and performing health and safety checks.
  • Maintain safety guidelines and procedures
  • Develop rapport, communicate effectively and build relationships with staff, volunteers, parents and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead and supervise fitness activities, monitor behavior, oversee curriculum activities, and perform housekeeping responsibilities.
  • Work hours: Monday-Friday from 2pm until 6:30pm. Additional hours available during the summer, Spring/Winter break and other out-of-school times.
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Experience in caring for children between the ages of 6 months to 6 years of age with the ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities. Minimum of 1 year of teaching children from diverse racial/cultural populations preferred. Submit to background check and drug screening. Be CPR, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogen certified or obtain certification upon hire. Complete all training requirements for the position including Mandated Reporter Training. Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a small group of children alone in a classroom. Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences.

When you join our team as a Youth Recreation Assistant you will:
  • Assist Lead Guides (Montessori) with the implementation of AMS/AMI Montessori curriculum in a way that is consistent with the unique needs of each child; create a safe, nurturing environment where children can play and learn.
  • Partner with parents with a shared desire to provide the best care and education for their children.
  • Support your center's success; partner with center staff and leadership to achieve goals around enrollment, accreditation, and engagement.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with families, teachers, state licensing authorities, community contacts and corporate partners.

Requirements

Other duties include:
1) Maintain Environment and Records
a) Prepare an environment in which the furnishings and materials are complete and correspond to the needs of the group.
b) Be responsible for the care and maintenance of classroom materials, i.e. maintain an orderly environment, keep it clean, and in like-new condition. The children are to be brought into this responsibility.
c) Maintain inventory of the classroom.
d) Maintain current attendance records.
e) Complete, maintain and submit academic records and other records/reports during the year as requested by the Principal.

2) Communicate with Grace and Courtesy
a) With parents:
i) Maintain relationships with parents. The Teacher's relationship with the
parents is vital to the parents' feeling of security in leaving their child in our
hands. We are in the trust business.
ii) Have on-going communication with parents in regard to their child's spe

Required Skills and Experience\:
  • A love for children and a strong desire to make a difference every day.
  • Ability to build relationships with families and coworkers and create a dynamic environment where play and learning happens.
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Must be physically able to use a computer with basic proficiency, lift a minimum of 40 pounds, and work indoors or outdoors. Must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English and Spanish
A Montessori assistant teacher must have one of the following credentials/degrees listed below.
Valid Paraprofessional Certificate (issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission)
Valid Child Development Associate (CDA) credential (issued by the Council for Professional Recognition)
TCC (Technical Certificate of Credit) in Early Childhood Education TCD (Technical College Diploma) in Early Childhood Education
AA, AS, AAS, AAT (Associate Degree)
BA, BS (Bachelor Degree)
Georgia Teaching Certificate (issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission)
MA, MS (Master's Degree)
Specialist Degree or PhD

A CDA credential is valid for three years from the award date, after which it may be renewed in three-year increments.
