About the Position
Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Observation Unit (MedSurg) Duration: 17 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Experience with common titratable or set rate drips; ability to read EKG strips Description: The unit operates with a strict radius rule for staffing. Candidates must have 2 years of nursing experience and at least 1 travel assignment. The unit has a total of 22 beds with patient-to-nurse ratios of 1:5 or 1:6. Charge nurses occasionally take an assignment. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) may assist on the unit if staffing allows. This is a heavy tele unit, monitored by central monitoring. There are no ventilators, but equipment for CPAP and BiPAP is available. Self-scheduling is not allowed, and weekend requirements include working every other weekend. Staff members rotate holiday shifts with permanent staff. There is no standby or call requirement. Floater nurses may be required to assist in med-surg areas when needed. The dress code consists of Caribbean blue tops and bottoms or white tops with Caribbean blue bottoms. This is a fast-paced unit with high turnover, managing discharges and admissions efficiently. Nurses are responsible for performing EKGs and drawing their own labs. The charting system in use is MEDITECH.
