Assistant General Manager
Holeman + Finch Public House is seeking an experienced Assistant General Manager to lead team training and development while supporting the restaurant’s daily operations. This position serves as the primary director of training for food, beverage, service, and hospitality standards, ensuring every team member has the knowledge, confidence, and support to deliver an exceptional guest experience.

Summary of Position
The Assistant General Manager works closely with the General Manager to oversee daily operations and build a knowledgeable, engaged, and hospitality-driven team. A central responsibility of this role is directing team education and training across all aspects of food, beverage, service, and hospitality.
The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic teacher and confident floor leader who can translate our standards into practical, consistent training. This person will develop team members, coach managers and hourly employees, reinforce product knowledge, and ensure our service culture is present in every guest interaction.
Essential Responsibilities Team Training and Development
Direct the restaurant’s training and continuing-education programs for food, beverage, service, and hospitality.
Create, organize, and maintain training materials, service standards, product guides, and onboarding resources.
Lead new-hire orientation and oversee position-specific training and certification.
Conduct ongoing classes, tastings, menu meetings, pre-shift education, and service workshops.
Educate the team on menu ingredients, preparation techniques, sourcing, allergens, beverage pairings, and the stories behind our products.
Coach team members on hospitality, dining-room awareness, communication, service recovery, and anticipating guest needs.
Train managers and designated trainers to deliver consistent instruction, feedback, and performance evaluations.
Evaluate the effectiveness of training and identify opportunities for continued development.
Build clear development plans for team members interested in advancing within Hopkins and Company.
Foster a learning environment grounded in curiosity, accountability, inclusion, and mutual respect.
Food, Beverage, and Hospitality Leadership
Establish and uphold consistent standards for food presentation, beverage service, table maintenance, pacing, and guest engagement.
Partner with culinary and beverage leaders to ensure the service team is prepared to speak accurately and confidently about all offerings.
Maintain a visible leadership presence during service, providing real-time coaching and support.
Monitor the quality and expediency of food and beverages.
Lead by example in creating warm, thoughtful, and memorable guest experiences.
Respond to guest feedback and guide the team in effective service recovery.
Use observations, guest feedback, and operating results to strengthen training priorities.
Restaurant Operations
Support the General Manager in overseeing the restaurant’s day-to-day operations.
Assist with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, scheduling, and performance management.
Lead opening and closing procedures and serve as the manager on duty as assigned.
Support labor, cost-control, inventory, and productivity goals.
Maintain compliance with health, safety, sanitation, alcohol-service, and workplace requirements.
Help ensure the restaurant and its equipment are clean, organized, safe, and properly maintained.
Promote effective communication and collaboration among the culinary, beverage, service, and leadership teams.
Qualifications
Previous restaurant management experience in a high-quality, full-service operation.
Demonstrated success training, coaching, and developing hospitality teams.
Strong working knowledge of food, wine, spirits, beer, and restaurant service.
A genuine passion for teaching and helping others grow.
Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
Ability to provide clear expectations, constructive feedback, and consistent follow-through.
Calm, professional, and solutions-oriented leadership during busy services.
Commitment to exceptional hospitality and creating an inclusive workplace.
Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
