Director of Media and Content Strategy - Angelicum Media
The Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome is seeking to appoint a Director of Media and Content Strategy for Angelicum Media. The position requires a commitment of at least two years and relocation to Rome, Italy.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
Angelicum Media is the media arm of the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum). Its mission is to advance the university's academic and ecclesial mission through high-quality educational, promotional, and event-based media, with a particular focus on theology, philosophy, and the Catholic intellectual tradition. The Director of Media and Content Strategy is the senior leadership role within Angelicum Media. This person is responsible for the overall vision, direction, and sustainability of the media operation, while also remaining closely engaged in the development and production of major content initiatives. The Director ensures that ongoing projects run smoothly, new projects move into the pipeline, and Angelicum Media continues to grow in impact, quality, and strategic coherence. This role combines content leadership, project oversight, institutional coordination, and forward-looking strategy in a small, nimble media environment.KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Strategic Leadership and Vision:- Provide overall leadership for Angelicum Media, articulating a clear vision for its mission, priorities, and future development.
- Identify and develop new media initiatives (especially educational video and podcast series) aligned with the Angelicum's academic and ecclesial mission.
- Think strategically about formats, audiences, platforms, partnerships, and long-term sustainability.
- Oversee budgets, timelines, and resource allocation across projects.
- Lead the content development and editorial direction of educational video and podcast series.
- Work with faculty, speakers, and collaborators to shape themes, topics, and long-term series structure.
- Exercise final editorial authority over scripts, storyboards, and finished content.
- Oversee pre-production, production, and post-production workflows in collaboration with producers and external contractors.
- Provide strategic oversight for promotional media and coverage of university events (conferences, lectures, special initiatives).
- Coordinate with internal staff and freelancers to ensure consistency of quality, messaging, and institutional branding.

- Set priorities and standards for content publishing, audience growth, and analytics-driven decision-making.
- Oversee paid advertising strategy and campaigns when applicable.

- Supervise and mentor junior producers and staff.
- Coordinate responsibilities with the existing videographer/editor and other collaborators.
- Foster a collaborative, flexible, and mission-driven working culture.
- Identify areas for improvement and contribute to the ongoing development of the University's conference and events infrastructure.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Significant experience in media production, content management, or media strategy (exact number of years flexible).
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects from concept through release.
- Strong editorial judgment and experience shaping intellectually serious content for broad audiences.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Comfort working in a small team where roles may overlap.
- Strong interest in, and familiarity with, theology, philosophy, or the Catholic intellectual tradition (formal academic training is a plus but not required).
- Fluency in English required; strong Italian skills highly desired.
