Position Overview:

Advance Industrial Mechanical (AIM) is seeking a dedicated and skilled HVAC Technician to join our growing team. This position focuses on the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial HVAC systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in troubleshooting large commercial systems (up to 50 tons), advanced controls, and refrigeration cycles, as well as the ability to mentor and guide junior level technicians. Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC systems, including RTUs, split systems, package units, Bard units, large compressors, and motors.
  • Diagnose and repair issues in evaporators, condensers, coils, TXVs, VAV systems, economizers, and hydronic pumps.
  • Perform coil replacements and ensure proper refrigerant cycle operation using PT chart, subcooling, and superheat diagnostics.
  • Troubleshoot and repair low voltage (24V) and high voltage (208V–480V) electrical systems, advanced controls, and system design issues.
  • Read and interpret complex electrical, mechanical, and control schematics to guide troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Size and route HVAC piping accurately based on project requirements.
  • Lead equipment placement, including safe crane signaling, evacuation, and OEM-compliant start-up procedures.
  • Manage project resources, timelines, and ensure code compliance.
  • Mentor and train Level 1 and Level 2 HVAC technicians to develop skills and team efficiency.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of large commercial/industrial HVAC systems.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for assignments, occasionally for up to one week at a time
  • Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, including large compressors, motors, economizers, VAV systems, and system design fundamentals.
  • Proficient in HVAC pipe sizing, routing, installation, and troubleshooting best practices.
  • Skilled at reading and interpreting complex schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills with both customers and team members.
  • Ability to work independently, manage service calls, and ensure code compliance.
  • Experienced in mentoring and training junior technicians (Level 1 & Level 2).
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 80 lbs, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; able to operate a company vehicle.
  • Ability to pass fit-for-duty evaluations, pre-hire drug screening, and ongoing random screenings per company policy.

Qualifications

  • EPA Universal Certification (required).
  • NATE Certification (preferred).
  • Advanced training in HVAC troubleshooting, diagnostics, and electrical/controls systems.
  • OEM equipment training and start-up certifications (Aaon, Intellipak, VRF systems preferred).
  • Knowledge of BAS (Building Automation Systems), HVAC system controls, and automation.
  • Experience with cooling tower maintenance/installation and water piping systems.
  • Proficient in ductwork installation and HVAC system design fundamentals.
  • Understanding of local building codes and compliance requirements.
  • Leadership and mentoring training for junior technicians.

Salary Description

$24.00+ per hour (Based on experience)
