For more information, visit us online at gcsu.edu.Job SummaryThe Associate Director of Information Services and Studies provides direction and leadership for the Information Services and Studies Department. The Associate Director develops cooperative and collaborative partnerships across the university and with external organizations, working to extend the reach of the library's services and resources. The incumbent for this department chair-equivalent position will create and promote innovation and change while respecting the principles and best practices of the profession and articulating the library's vision to stakeholders.The Associate Director coordinates the following functions of the library: teaching and learning, research assistance, liaison services, and academic outreach. The incumbent leads a talented team of library faculty in the implementation and assessment of the library's strategic plan as it relates to information services and guides the team in setting department goals and continuously assessing services and programs.This 12-month administrative faculty position requires an ALA-accredited master's degree in Library Science, with the experience and documented achievements appropriate for consideration of a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.ResponsibilitiesFaculty - Teaching/Instructing -A primary responsibility of this position is the implementation, scheduling, and assessment of the library's Information Studies minor, a for-credit interdisciplinary program focusing on the creation, use, communication, and management of information. The minor is made up of two required courses and three elective courses offered on a rotating basis, with a minimum of two courses taught each Fall and Spring semester.The Associate Director also coordinates the implementation, scheduling, and assessment of the library's contribution to the university's core curriculum, GC1Y: Research in the Age of Google, a section of which is offered each Fall and Spring Semester. The Associate Director also manages non-credit information literacy instruction, including one-shot sessions, research consultations, and workshops to implement a comprehensive information literacy program.Faculty - Professional Development -Faculty are expected to conduct research and develop within the profession.Academic Achievement/Professional Development- Publications (editing, citations)- Presentations at professional meetings- Publication; peer reviewed scholarship- Current work in circulation or in progress- Grants received or applied for- Membership and participation in professional organizations- Other professional service of development activitiesAbility to develop and demonstrate knowledge of current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline.Faculty - Service to Institution -All faculty are expected to support the advancement of the department, college and university mission by providing service to the institution. Service may be at the department, college, university, community and disciplinary level. Duties include service on college-level and university-level committees, advising students regarding career options, and support of department-level outreach activities.Service to the Institution- Committee memberships and offices- Programs directed and advised- Participation in special programs or projects- Other service in the institutionAbility to work collegially with others in service to the University; Support the advancement of the department, college and University mission.Faculty - Public Service -Public Service is often a part of faculty service expectations and might include activities such as the following:- Consulting work- Provide continuing education service, instruction, or program development for department, school, college, or university- Membership and participation in community organizations- Other significant services to the communityAbility to work collegially with others in service to the broader University community.Other duties and responsibilities -All Georgia College faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike. To carry out our public liberal arts mission, we seek faculty with the desire and ability to engage students as they launch their intellectual journey.Administration -Establishes policies and procedures for the efficient operation of the Information Services Studies Department, including information literacy instruction, liaison services and scholarly communication services.Supervision -Recruits, recommends for hire, trains, coaches, supports, supervises, and evaluates faculty, staff, and student assistants; makes recommendations regarding faculty reappointment, tenure, and promotion; handles personnel actions/decisions based on applicable policy, procedures, and practices; mentors faculty and staffOutreach and Development -Works collaboratively with colleagues to develop and present programs and activities that promote library services; pursues funds necessary to support program through grant writing and collaborative projectsRequired QualificationsEducational RequirementsAn ALA-accredited Masters of Library ScienceMust meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 ( (faculty credentials))Other Required QualificationsTwo years of supervisory experienceRequired ExperienceMinimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in an academic library in instruction, research assistance, and outreach an academic library to include;Experience in program development and delivery, such as information literacy instruction, liaison services, or scholarly communication services, maker space services, etc.Experience and documented achievements appropriate for consideration of a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.Preferred QualificationsAdditional Preferred QualificationsKnowledge of change management practices.Preferred Educational QualificationsA doctorate degree in related subject (e.g., library science, educational leadership)Preferred ExperienceThree years of for-credit teaching and curriculum development experience, including experience with instructional design, and pedagogical strategies relevant to academic librariesThree years experience supervising facultyRequired Documents to Attach List of References Teaching PhilosophyKnowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesABILITIESAbility to provide leadership for the scholarly and instructional functions of the University Library, guiding and advancing library programs to support student success for undergraduate and graduate learners.KNOWLEDGEKnowledge of ACRL's Information Literacy Framework and/or the American Association of College and Universities' Essential Learning Outcomes; Knowledge of copyright fair use, and open education principles, including awareness of open education, open data, and open accessSKILLSSkill in collaboratively facilitating the development of academic and research collaborations with faculty across academic units at GCSU, ensuring the alignment of library services with academic needs across the university.USG Core ValuesThe University System of Georgia is comprised of our 26 institutions of higher education and learning as well as the System Office.
