Individual Support Worker
At River Edge in the Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities program, our caring, well-trained staff partner with individuals, families, loved ones, and other providers to offer individualized choices, options, opportunities, and supports that promote each individual's valued social roles, pursuing expanded hopes and dreams, learning new skills, and living the most independent, meaningful life possible. Though people say "developmental disabilities," we see "different abilities." The staff teaches, reinforces, and supports daily nutrition, hygiene, medication, and social skills. Staff provides behavior support and fosters opportunities and options for community integration and belonging.
In this position, you will:
Assist with daily living activities in individual's home or residential facility. Observe and monitor the client's behavior and chart observations and incidents. Provides training on basic personal and social skills, simple academics, or work skills. May assist with meal preparation, ADLs, and provide transportation.
Responsibilities:- Instructs and advises clients/residents on daily living skills in one-on-one or group instruction.
- Observe and monitor client behavior.
- Counsels and advises clients on behavioral problems, daily decision-making, and the resolution of minor problems.
- Provides personal care as needed.
- Performs housekeeping duties, such as cleaning, washing clothes and dishes, and running errands.
- May plan, shop for, and prepare meals, including special diets.
- Prepares and maintains records of client progress and services performed, reporting changes in client condition to manager or supervisor.
- Provides transportation for clients/residents to appointments and activities.
- Monitors self-administration of medications.
Technical Competencies:
- Ability to observe and monitor participants' behavior.
- Ability to assist and supervise participants with daily living activities.
- Knowledge of agency confidentiality policies.
- Knowledge of individualized service plans.
- Knowledge of the documentation process.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to plan recreational activities for participants.
- Knowledge of agency safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to complete all daily housekeeping chores.
- Ability to identify and report facility repairs and equipment problems.
- Conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to identify disruptive behavior.
- Ability to train individuals in personal hygiene and other daily living activities.
- Ability to recognize contributions and celebrate accomplishments.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- HS diploma/ GED.
- Valid Driver's License with three years of driving experience and reliable transportation.
- Acceptable Driving record.
- Acceptable background check.
- Must pass a drug screen.
- Current physical/ TB test.
- Acceptable references.
- Ability to pass basic CPR and first aid.
