Soul Foodies is a fast-paced, scratch-made kitchen specializing in Southern comfort food and Creole classics. We take pride in preparing fresh, high-quality food from scratch while providing exceptional service through takeout, pickup, delivery, and catering operations. As a 24-hour restaurant, we depend on dedicated team members who value consistency, cleanliness, organization, and teamwork.

Position Summary

Soul Foodies is seeking an organized, dependable, and hardworking Prep Cook to join our culinary team. The Prep Cook plays a critical role in the success of our kitchen by ensuring ingredients are properly prepared, inventory is maintained, deliveries are accurately received, and production areas remain organized and stocked.

The ideal candidate has experience working in a high-volume kitchen, understands the importance of food safety and sanitation, and can work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. This position serves as the foundation of our kitchen operation and directly contributes to the quality and consistency of every meal served.

Essential ResponsibilitiesFood Preparation
  • Prepare vegetables, meats, seafood, sauces, gravies, dressings, and other ingredients according to company recipes and specifications.
  • Execute prep assignments efficiently, accurately, and safely.
  • Portion, label, date, and properly store all food products using FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
  • Ensure all prepared products meet Soul Foodies quality standards.
  • Assist with preparation for daily operations, catering events, and large-volume production needs.
  • Maintain adequate prep levels to support all shifts in a 24-hour operation.
Receiving & Inventory Management
  • Receive and inspect deliveries to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with purchase orders.
  • Verify quantities, product quality, temperatures, and expiration dates upon delivery.
  • Properly store incoming inventory according to food safety guidelines.
  • Organize storage areas, coolers, freezers, and dry storage locations.
  • Assist with weekly and monthly inventory counts.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate shortages to management.
  • Assist with ordering, inventory reconciliation, and product rotation.
Kitchen Operations
  • Collaborate with kitchen team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely production.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient production flow while adapting to menu changes and operational needs.
  • Support Line Cooks and Kitchen Managers by ensuring stations remain stocked with necessary ingredients.
  • Follow established recipes, prep procedures, and production schedules.
  • Assist with additional kitchen duties as assigned.
Food Safety & Sanitation
  • Follow all ServSafe guidelines and local health department regulations.
  • Conduct food handling checks to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary workstations, prep areas, equipment, storage areas, and food preparation surfaces.
  • Properly clean and sanitize knives, cutting boards, equipment, and work areas throughout the shift.
  • Ensure proper food temperatures, storage procedures, and cross-contamination prevention practices are followed at all times.
  • Complete assigned cleaning tasks and side work before the end of each shift.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Experience in scratch cooking, Southern cuisine, soul food, or Creole cuisine preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work effectively.
  • Knowledge of proper food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment.
  • Experience receiving deliveries and managing inventory preferred.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to follow recipes, production schedules, and standard operating procedures.
  • Food Safety Certification preferred.
  • Must obtain Food Safety Certification if not already completed.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move continuously for up to 8 hours or more.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to safely operate knives, slicers, mixers, and other kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, and fast-paced kitchen environments.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as chopping, slicing, lifting, and stocking.
