Position Summary

We are looking for a Senior Accountant with a strong foundation in GAAP to support our finance and accounting team. Reporting to the Controller, this role is responsible for managing the full accounting lifecycle across a diverse project portfolio, including cost accounting, general ledger maintenance, and revenue recognition. This position works cross-functionally with project managers, finance leadership, and other departments in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

General Accounting & Reporting

• Prepare and post monthly journal entries including revenue, accruals, and prepaid expenses
• Perform bank and account reconciliations and budget variance analysis
• Reconcile billed and unbilled receivables against revenue activity and resolve discrepancies
• Prepare closing general ledger entries for cash, accruals, and accounts payable
• Assist with ad hoc reporting and audit support on a quarterly and as-needed basis

Project Accounting

• Manage the full lifecycle of project accounting from account setup through project close-out
• Track project budgets, validate invoices, and reconcile project payables and receivables
• Review and interpret contract documents to ensure proper billing and revenue recognition treatment
• Coordinate with the contracts department and project managers to confirm invoicing requirements
• Partner with project managers to develop project structures that align with billing, revenue, and cost accumulation needs
• Provide accounting recommendations when contract modifications or budget changes occur

Billing

• Prepare client billings across multiple contract types including Cost Plus, Time & Materials, and Fixed Price
• Conduct monthly revenue reviews and research and resolve unexplained variances

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience
• 1–3 years of experience in a government contracting environment
• Proficiency in Oracle and/or Deltek Costpoint
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, and data sorting and filtering
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills

Preferred

• Master's degree in Accounting or Business
• Experience with big data analysis
