Position Summary
We are looking for a Senior Accountant with a strong foundation in GAAP to support our finance and accounting team. Reporting to the Controller, this role is responsible for managing the full accounting lifecycle across a diverse project portfolio, including cost accounting, general ledger maintenance, and revenue recognition. This position works cross-functionally with project managers, finance leadership, and other departments in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
General Accounting & Reporting
- Prepare and post monthly journal entries including revenue, accruals, and prepaid expenses
- Perform bank and account reconciliations and budget variance analysis
- Reconcile billed and unbilled receivables against revenue activity and resolve discrepancies
- Prepare closing general ledger entries for cash, accruals, and accounts payable
- Assist with ad hoc reporting and audit support on a quarterly and as-needed basis
Project Accounting
- Manage the full lifecycle of project accounting from account setup through project close-out
- Track project budgets, validate invoices, and reconcile project payables and receivables
- Review and interpret contract documents to ensure proper billing and revenue recognition treatment
- Coordinate with the contracts department and project managers to confirm invoicing requirements
- Partner with project managers to develop project structures that align with billing, revenue, and cost accumulation needs
- Provide accounting recommendations when contract modifications or budget changes occur
Billing
- Prepare client billings across multiple contract types including Cost Plus, Time & Materials, and Fixed Price
- Conduct monthly revenue reviews and research and resolve unexplained variances
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience
- 1–3 years of experience in a government contracting environment
- Proficiency in Oracle and/or Deltek Costpoint
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, and data sorting and filtering
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
- Master's degree in Accounting or Business
- Experience with big data analysis
