The Superior Court of Fulton County Georgia (“Court”) has an exciting opportunity for the position of Pretrial Release Officer I.

Superior Court is Georgia's busiest trial court of general jurisdiction. The Court seeks to provide a forum in which legal disputes between citizens can be resolved in a fair and efficient process with attention to equal access, impartiality, efficiency, and safety. Job Summary:
The purpose of this classification is to perform duties related to interviewing defendants and issuing release orders for defendants who meet the stipulations of the Pretrial Services Program. Responsibilities include conducting counseling sessions, qualifying defendants for pretrial release interviews and providing referrals to social/rehabilitative agencies. This class is distinguished from Pretrial Release Officer II in that this classification conducts interviews, assesses eligibility, and issues release orders for defendants; whereas the latter tracks cases for defendants and provides lead direction to assigned staff.

Essential Duties:
  • Conducts interviews with defendants in County jail: gathers defendant's demographic information, employment, criminal history, driving records, and other pertinent information; completes intake process; verifies references; and determines if clients are a candidate for the pretrial release program. Makes recommendations and resolves problems. Meets with released defendants to discuss rules and conditions governing their release.

  • Prepares for bond hearings: prepares bond assessment reports containing criminal history and reference information; makes recommendations regarding release of defendants; and removes defendants in violation of the release from their original bond.

  • Assists pretrial program participants in resolving and /or handling problems: conducts counseling sessions and provides referrals to social/ rehabilitative agencies.

  • Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures: receives and reviews various documentation, including GClC and local criminal histories, external reports, bench warrants, veteran status reports, and drug screenings; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation, including Public Defender Application.

  • Bond Assessments, Mental/Drug screenings and interviews; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and /or hardcopy records.

  • Enter or retrieve, modify data utilizing unified database Odyssey, word processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet, e-mail, or other similar software: and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions. Communicates with supervisor, other employees and defendants.


Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Requires knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing area of assignment. Theories and principles of basic mathematics. Principles and practices of filing and basic records management. General office practices, procedures, equipment, and technology.

Requires skill in delivering high quality, customer-focused service. Scheduling meetings, appointments, and special events. Creating and maintaining specialized filing systems and records. Using spreadsheet, database, word processing, presentation, and other software to gather, organize, and presenting information. Building sustainable working relationships with other County personnel, officials, and the public. Communicating effectively with coworkers, supervisor, and the public. Generating enthusiasm and support for program objectives.

Ability to effectively present information in court proceedings.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, or a related field required; supplemented by one year of experience working in law enforcement or with a court program: or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.

Licensing Requirements:
May require a valid Georgia driver’s license.
