Machine Tool Retrofit and CNC Setup Technologist

Imagine stepping to a machine, reading the print, installing a DC motor and linear scale, and validating the outcome with a micrometer—all before lunch. If that sounds like you, this role was designed for your skill set.

Key outcomes (first 6 months)

• Independently set up, operate, and maintain CNC and conventional mills, lathes, grinders, routers, and drills.
• Complete motion-system installations (ball screws, DC motors, linear scales, housings) and verify accuracy.
• Translate engineering drawings/blueprints/technical specifications into reliable setups and inspection plans.
• Conduct visual, dimensional, and functional inspections using calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
• Tune machining processes for both precision and efficiency; perform minor repairs and maintenance.
• Operate forklifts and walkies to move skidded product; support warehouse operations when needed.
• Communicate by phone with internal/external partners and pull data from the AS/400 system promptly.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and safely handle cleaning materials, including chemical products.
• Contribute to MSC’s culture of safety, service, and teamwork; assist with special projects and additional duties as assigned.

What you bring

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training preferred.
• 3+ years of machining/technical experience.
• Detail focus, quality mindset, and the ability to work independently or within a team.

• Loading/unloading vehicles; heavy material handling
• Forklift licensed; skid steer operation
• Tape measure reading; mechanical assembly; packaging

• CNC Mill (3–4 axis VMC) and CNC Mill (5+ axis VMC)
• CNC Lathe (2–4 axis) and CNC Lathe (5+ axis)
• CNC Router; CNC Grinder; Cylindrical Grinder
• Measurement gauges; calipers and micrometers
• RF scanner; cherry picker (order picker); conveyor systems
• Power tools; band saw
• CNC automation solutions

• A valid driver’s license may be required.
• This position may require access to International Traffic in Arms Regulations Information (“ITAR”) and/or Controlled Unclassified Information (“CUI”).
• To support customer service, you may be temporarily reassigned to other warehouse functions.
