OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION:

Preschool Infant ? 2?s Assistant Teachers are expected to help create an environment that nurtures the social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual development of the children. This requires providing a warm and loving atmosphere for the children and the parents. The teacher and assistant(s) in each classroom should work together as a team throughout the day to help provide the desired environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Assist the Lead Teacher with lesson plans and preparing the room in the morning and afternoon keeping materials, smocks, toys, tablecloths or any materials used during the day cleaned, disinfected and organized.
  • Lead individual children or small groups in educational instruction.
  • Work with the Lead Teacher to prepare the needed activities according to the lesson plan.
  • Provide an engaging interaction with children at all times.
  • Keep the head count of children at all times inside the classroom and at the playground making sure the children are safe at all times.
  • Assist children with daily care activities (i.e. washing children's hands, diapering, pottying, meals, etc.)Support Lead Teacher with daily communication with parents through Tadpoles, making sure daily routines and special notes are properly informed to parents.
  • Help guide the children in better attending the instruction time and work/play appropriately with peers and classroom resources.
  • Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline.
  • Review with the Lead Teacher the progress of each child and develop written plans to promote each child?s growth and development.
  • Take the emergency bag every time the students are moved to a different space in the school including fire/ tornado drill, emergency situations.
  • Monitor and refill Emergency bags with needed supplies monthly.
  • Support the Lead Teacher with preparing the communication folders every school day.
  • Maintain a respectful environment with children, parents and staff at school at all times.
  • Supervise and engage with children on playground areas.
  • Follow cleaning and sanitation procedures.
  • Administer first aid (Band-Aid, ice packs, etc.) and document accidents
  • Arrive in classroom at least 5 minutes before scheduled start time
  • Attend certain school functions as required by the administration (ie. Open House, staff meetings, trainings, etc.)
  • Arrange for substitute coverage when out for illness or personal reasons.
  • When a substitute is needed for the teacher, the assistant assumes the teacher's responsibilities in her absence, and the substitute will act as the assistant.
  • Support the school with words and actions on and off campus.
  • Maintain confidentiality in school matters and in regard to students, their families, and coworkers.
  • Demonstrate patience when interacting with children, parents, and co­workers. Understand an infant, toddler, and preschooler?s social/emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual developmental needs.
  • Participate in training and professional development; goal setting with supervisor
  • Be evaluated throughout the year through informal and formal classroom observation.
  • Showing support and high esteem for School at all times.
  • Attending and participating in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings and activities according to school policy.
  • Complying with conditions as stated in employee agreement and handbook.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Assistant Head of School or Director of Preschoolsuch as carpool.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's preferred or Degree in Education, Early Childhood Development, or related field, preferred; High School Diploma or equivalent with qualifying experience will be considered; CDA credential a plus.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with children ages three months through age 3.Ability to help create a harmonious environment where they work as a team with other teachers and assistants.
  • Ability to communicate positively with parents, including feedback about the child's day is a must.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Must work well individually and as part of a small team;ability to interact collaboratively with parents, students and administration.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or other similar programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Administration
  • Superior time management skills and the ability to consistently meet deadlines and be flexible

Physical Requirements:

  • Employee should be able to crawl around on the floor and interact with children in their space.
  • Employee should be able to do lifting and walking as needed.Employee should be able to go outside with the children, welcome parents at the gate (Morning drop-off and Afternoon pick-up) in various types of weather (heat, cold and rain).
  • The employee is continuously involved with supervising and interacting with students including, but not limited to, transitioning from location to location, drop off and pick­up responsibilities, and lunch.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Before and After School Program: Care for the children in the Before and After School Program.
  • Assistants are expected to be in the Before and After School classrooms during their regularly scheduled hours.
  • Duties and responsibilities are the same as during the School Day with the addition of assisting children with napping.
  • Pre-­Planning: Care for the children of the faculty and staff who are in attendance during pre-planning.
  • Assistants are expected to work their regularly scheduled hours during pre­planning, including those worked in the extended day program, if applicable.
  • Post-­Planning: Care for the children of the faculty and staff who are in attendance during post-planning.
  • Assistants are expected to work their regularly scheduled hours during post-­planning, including those worked in the extended day program, if applicable.
  • In-Service Days/Teacher Workdays/Conference Days: Care for the children of the faculty and staff who are in attendance during in-service days, teacher workdays, conference days.
  • Assistants are expected to work their regularly scheduled hours during these days, including those worked in the extended day program, if applicable.
This position works with 2-year-olds from the hours of 8am - 2pm, during the months of August - May. this is a school year contracted position.

Pay is dependent on experience and degree.
30 hours per week.
Holiday closings of 1 week at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas, 1 week in March for spring break, and a few other various holidays.
