Senior Architectural Historian
Your impact
At Jacobs, you’ll work for a company that strives to provide opportunities for employees to learn, grow, and thrive. As Southeast Senior Architectural Historian, you will lead cultural resources projects across the southeastern United States, primarily for transportation, water, and energy infrastructure projects. There is an immediate need for cultural resources support for infrastructure projects in Georgia and Tennessee. Based on availability, you may also lead other projects throughout the United States, including providing cultural resources support for planning, engineering, and construction services to water, Department of Defense, federal civilian, and other government and commercial clients. The Architectural Historian career path provides the opportunity to work on projects that require compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and other federal, state, and local cultural resource regulations.
The Senior Architectural Historian confidently develops strategies for compliance with federal, state, and local cultural resources regulations and solutions for complex projects. You will serve as a key team member working with planners, scientists, engineers, project managers, and other project staff across business sectors in the company and will interface with clients and coordinate consultation with State Historic Preservation Officers, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, Native American tribes, and multiple state and federal agencies. You will also prepare proposals and cost estimates, provide technical reviews of deliverables, provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level employees, and serve as a mentor within the cultural resources group.

- Minimum 10 years of professional experience in historic preservation or a related field
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams
- Proficient reading architecture and engineering plans

- Literature reviews and background research
- Developing historical contexts

Relevant experience includes conducting cultural resources literature reviews, historic resource surveys, and serving as a primary author and technical reviewer on reports for the Georgia and Tennessee DOTs
- Experience interfacing directly with staff at the Georgia and Tennessee DOTs and State Historic Preservation Offices
- Experience working in the consulting environment, able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and be responsive to both internal and external clients
- Knowledge of and experience with ‘recent past’ resources, such as Ranch houses and mid-twentieth century commercial buildings
- Experience preparing proposals and cost estimates
