Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator

Job Description

This role combines skilled equipment operation with basic carpentry work to support foundation and site preparation activities at an active construction site. You will operate heavy machinery to grade gravel and dig ditches for footings, while also building wooden edge forms that support concrete and structural work.

Responsibilities

• Operate a backhoe to dig precise ditches for foundation footings in accordance with site plans and safety standards.
• Grade gravel surfaces to ensure proper elevation, drainage, and stability for foundations and other structural work.
• Construct wooden edge forms that support concrete pours and foundation structures, following measurements and specifications.
• Use bulldozers and other heavy equipment, as needed, to move, level, and compact soil and aggregate materials.
• Read and follow basic instructions, site plans, or directions from supervisors to complete assigned tasks accurately.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area around excavation and form-building activities to support safety and efficiency.
• Inspect equipment before use and report any mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly.
• Wear required personal protective equipment at all times, including hard hat, boots, safety vest, and goggles.
• Work collaboratively with other construction team members to coordinate equipment operation and carpentry tasks.
• Follow all site safety rules and procedures to minimize risk to yourself, coworkers, and equipment.

Essential Skills

• 1–2 years of experience operating dozers and backhoes on construction or similar work sites.
• Proficiency in safe backhoe operation for digging ditches, trenching, and foundation footings.
• Ability to grade gravel and other materials accurately using heavy equipment.
• Basic carpentry skills for building wooden edge forms, including measuring, cutting, and assembling lumber.
• Understanding of construction site safety practices and consistent use of personal protective equipment.
• Ability to follow directions and work within established site plans and specifications.
• Physical capability to work on your feet for extended periods and perform manual tasks in a construction environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working on active construction sites with multiple trades and equipment in use.
• Familiarity with bull dozer operation for grading and earthmoving tasks.
• Comfort working with hand tools and power tools commonly used in basic carpentry.
• Ability to adapt to changing site conditions and priorities throughout the workday.
• Strong attention to detail when building forms and grading surfaces to required levels.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality for early morning starts and full-day shifts.

Work Environment

This position is based on an active construction site with outdoor working conditions. The standard schedule runs from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. You will work around heavy machinery, gravel, soil, and concrete preparation areas, requiring constant attention to safety procedures. The role involves physical tasks such as standing, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in and out of equipment, and handling lumber and tools. Required attire includes a hard hat, work boots, safety vest, and goggles, which must be worn at all times on site.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Griffin, GA.

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $15.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Griffin,GA.
