Outside Referral Coordinator

Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is a seasoned healthcare administrative professional with a specialized background in referral processing and medical coding. They must possess leadership qualities to support a team of referral coordinators while navigating complex managed care workflows within the Epic system. 1. Experience & Education Mandatory Education: High School Diploma. Medical Background: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a medical setting, with at least one year in managed health care delivery. Specialized Knowledge: Minimum of two (2) years of working knowledge in CPT and ICD-9/10 coding is required. Data Entry: Minimum of three (3) years of data entry experience. 2. Technical Skillsets Core Systems: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required. Preferred Systems: Experience with EPIC (HealthConnect) or other Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems is highly preferred. Referral Expertise: Expert-level knowledge in processing outside medical care requests, including verifying eligibility, benefits, and provider status. 3. Key Competencies Leadership & Coaching: Ability to provide leadership and support for referral coordinators and serve as a primary resource for coding and referral questions. High-Volume Productivity: Capable of managing 70–80 calls per day in a fast-paced environment while maintaining empathy and compassion for sick members. Adaptability: Ability to multitask and adapt to frequent changes with ease. Professional Communication: strong relationship-building and stakeholder communication skills. Top Daily Responsibilities: Review requests for outside medical care - Verify eligibility, coverage, benefits, confirm provider status, maintain compliance timeframes
