The Partnership for International Vaccine Initiatives (PIVI) is a key program of The Task Force for Global Health. A public/private program PIVI works in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Ministries of Health corporate partners and others to create sustainable respiratory virus vaccination programs in low- and middle-income countries. POSITION DESCRIPTION :

  • Coordinates public health activities for the Task Force for Global Health including surveillance epidemiology prevention and control and outreach activities within countries.
  • Coordinates activities designed to address the public health issue identify resources and partnerships and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Research factors that may impact the success of a public health program including gathering input from stakeholders and target audiences in the field.
  • Maintains a surveillance system where appropriate to gather information on the public health area.
  • Analyzes trends and makes subsequent recommendations for changes in program policy.
  • Provides technical advice consultation and training on administrative and logistical aspects of disease intelligence individual elements of surveillance systems staffing and training needs.
  • Participates in the development of strategies aimed at the identification analysis and resolution of problems impacting the program.
  • Reports to leadership on the status of the public health issue.
  • Assists in developing grant proposals.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :

The primary responsibilities of the RSV Surveillance Project Coordinator (Epidemiologist) center on technical support coordination and data management for the Integrated RSV Sentinel Surveillance and Disease Burden Estimation project across partner countries.

These duties can be categorized into three main areas derived from the Terms of Reference:

Technical & Surveillance Implementation:

This area focuses on establishing improving and overseeing the quality of the RSV surveillance systems in partner countries.

Surveillance Implementation & Assessment:

  • Conduct regular supervision and in-person sentinel surveillance reviews to assess the feasibility and modality for integrating/improving RSV sentinel surveillance.
  • Assess progress on the implementation of integrated RSV sentinel surveillance and the estimation of RSV Burden of Disease (BoD) based on proportions.

Capacity Building & Protocol:

  • Train local counterparts on the use of available surveillance protocol templates and checklists.
  • Support the development of workplans for establishing/improving integrated RSV sentinel surveillance and estimating RSV BoD based on proportions.

Disease Burden Studies (Incidence):

  • Work with project staff to assess the feasibility and available data sources for countries selected to estimate RSV BoD based on incidence.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of specific studies for incidence-based RSV BoD estimation (e.g. Hospital Administrative or Healthcare Utilization Surveys).

Data Quality Analysis and Reporting:

These responsibilities ensure the collection of high-quality data and its transformation into actionable evidence and reports.

Data Quality Monitoring:

  • Conduct regular Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) on data quality and completeness.
  • Support the development of data collection tools as needed and facilitate data sharing with WHO RespiMart.

Epidemiologic Analysis & Writing:

  • Assist local counterparts in data analysis and manuscript writing on integrated RSV sentinel surveillance and RSV BoD estimation based on proportions.
  • Support report writing for funders and partners as requested by the Project Director.

Project Coordination and Collaboration:

This involves serving as the operational link between all project stakeholders (PIVI/TFGH WHO partners and countries).

Stakeholder Liaison:

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for collaborators in all partner countries.
  • Participate in internal project staff meetings and meetings with WHO and Gates Foundation collaborators.

Administrative Support (for Project Director):

  • Support overall project coordination including call scheduling drafting meeting notes and helping to ensure timelines and deliverables are tracked.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate fully as a member of the Task Force for Global Health by contributing assisting and participating in projects activities and initiatives as requested by management.

TRAVEL :

  • The position includes travel of up to 25% time. This position can be in Atlanta (based at the TFGH) or outside of Atlanta.

Term of position :

  • November 2025 October 2027.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • A masters degree in public health from an accredited school and one year of related experience which could be classified as fellowships internships research assistantships or part-time research activities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Advanced degree (MPH MSc) in Epidemiology Public Health or related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in disease surveillance preferably respiratory or RSV
  • Demonstrated experience with data management analysis and interpretation
  • Experience working with WHO Gates Foundation or other global health partners preferred
  • Strong coordination communication and writing skills
  • Proficiency in English; French proficiency highly desirable

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
