Protection & Control Applications Engineer
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology is preferredElectrical emphasis/discipline is highly preferred.
- Experience: Experience performing protective relay calculations and coordination studies is a plus Experience working with CAPE (Computer Aided Protection Engineering), CYME, ASPEN, EDSA, ETAP or other related power system simulation software programs is a plus Substation protective relay testing experience along with control scheme testing and commissioning experience is a plus.
- Experience in transmission and/or distribution substation operations, distribution engineering, field services engineering, and/or substation control design engineering is a plus.
- For less experienced engineers, electrical engineering courses that will be helpful in this position will include Power System Analysis, Protective Relaying, Control Systems, Electric Machine Theory, and Symmetrical Components.
- The primary responsibility of this position will be to support the protective relay settings development of distribution feeder breakers within transmission substations.
- Due to the considerable capital investment of our distribution system, our team is in need of a dedicated engineering resource to handle the growing list of relay settings change requests.
- To be more specific about the work, tasks of this role will include, but not be limited to, verifying/updating distribution substation short circuit models in CAPE, populating calculation sheets to solicit feedback from GPC's Distribution engineering team, performing time overcurrent coordination studies of distribution substation power transformers and breakers, and reviewing distribution substation protective relay logic and control drawings.
