Plant Facilities Technician
Food Manufacturing Maintenance Utilities Technician
This role focuses on maintaining and repairing the essential utility systems within a food manufacturing facility, ensuring smooth operation, compliance with safety and quality standards (including food safety), and minimizing downtime.
Key Responsibilities may include:
- Operating and maintaining utility systems: This involves tasks like operating, monitoring, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing systems such as:
- Industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Steam boilers.
- Thermal oxidizers.
- Compressed air systems.
- HVAC systems.
- Water treatment and wastewater systems.
- Hot water systems.
- Preventive Maintenance (PM): Participating in and performing preventative, predictive, and reactive maintenance tasks to ensure equipment longevity and prevent breakdowns.
- Troubleshooting and repair: Diagnosing and resolving mechanical and electrical issues within the plant's equipment and utility systems.
- Documentation: Accurately documenting all work performed, including repairs, maintenance activities, and parts used, utilizing maintenance software and logs.
- Safety and compliance: Adhering to all safety regulations, including those specific to food manufacturing (e.g., GMPs), and maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
- Facility maintenance: Performing general maintenance and repairs within the facility as needed.
- Collaboration: Working effectively with production, quality, and other maintenance teams to ensure efficient operations.
- Other Duties: Assisting with other facilities and maintenance tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Technical degree in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical, or a related field, or equivalent experience, is often preferred.
- Prior industrial maintenance experience, potentially with specific emphasis on utilities and food processing equipment.
- Knowledge of various utility systems, such as refrigeration (ammonia), boilers, compressed air, and wastewater treatment, is a plus.
- Familiarity with food safety regulations (e.g., GMPs) and programs like HACCP is highly desirable.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
