Job Title: RN - Emergency Department Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Nursing Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department RN experience required License: Valid RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, TNCC required; National certification in Emergency Nursing preferred but not required Must-Have: Basic Cardiac Rhythm competency; ability to pass EKG competency exam; experience with Level 1 Trauma; knowledge of medication drips such as Heparin, Insulin, Cardene, Dopamine, Epinephrine, Fentanyl, Propofol, and Levophed Description: We are seeking an RN for the Emergency Department. This facility has 637 licensed beds and a Level 1 Trauma designation. It serves as a teaching hospital and is recognized as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. The Emergency Department has 61 beds and surge capacity. Patient census typically exceeds 61. Common patient types include those experiencing chest pain, strokes, diabetes, abdominal pain, motor vehicle collisions, hypertension, stabbings, and mental health crises. Patient ratios are generally 1 RN to 4 patients, depending on the assigned zone. LPNs and CNAs work in the department with similar ratio guidelines. Support within the department includes CNAs who assist with vital signs, glucose checks, patient bathing, feeding, ambulation, hourly rounding, and patient transport. Unit secretaries and charge nurses provide additional support, along with a phlebotomy service and nursing draw. Respiratory therapy and hospitalists are available 24/7. Telemetry monitoring is managed centrally within the Emergency Department. The facility utilizes an Electronic Medical Record system (EMR) and various advanced technologies for patient care. The nursing team will use IV pumps, medication dispensing systems, cardiac telemetry, and portable vital sign monitors. Floating will occur within the emergency department as needed. Weekend rotations include 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 within a 6-week scheduling cycle. Staff are expected to work one shift during each major holiday. Requests for time off require managerial approval. Scrub colors are designated for nurses and other staff roles. The unit maintains a culture focused on teamwork.
