Chair, Accessory Design

Savannah College of Art and Design
Savannah, GA

As chair of accessory design, you will lead a team of faculty and staff in building a substantial reputation for the quality of the department while fulfilling the mission, vision, and values of the university. As you create a strong sense of collegiality within the department and of shared responsibility for the department’s goals, you will work with faculty on curriculum development, assessment activities, and policy/procedure requirements and implementation, including course schedules and facility use.

In this role, you will conduct classroom observations and annual faculty performance evaluations, assist in hiring faculty, ensure mentoring and faculty development opportunities, and oversee the departmental budget. You will also make decisions on student academic matters, assist in recruiting students, review graduate student applications, and track placement of students in internships and careers. The department chair teaches courses, as determined by the number of contact hours listed in the employment agreement.

Maintaining a visible on-site presence, you will oversee and guide the work of department faculty and staff, support and mentor students, and collaborate with academic leaders, faculty, and support staff across departments and university locations. Through every responsibility, you will model academic and professional leadership and ensure that all faculty and staff of the department work toward achieving the university’s mission, vision, and values.

Through day-to-day operational and long-term strategic actions, you will ensure the department’s intentional and measurable contribution to the university’s strategic plan. The chair ensures that all services related to academic offerings of the department are planned and delivered at the highest quality and without interruptions. The chair also makes certain that university policies and procedures are administered without exceptions.

The successful candidate has the leadership ability to transform strategic vision into implementation through measurable actions. The candidate has a commitment to teaching, learning, and excellence in academics; the ability to conduct thorough, thoughtful, and fair performance evaluations; evidence of success in creative and collaborative endeavors; and a dedication to personal and professional integrity. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, interpersonal communication, and problem-solving skills are essential.
