Director - Equipment Project Management Office
Position Summary
The Director - Equipment PMO will lead the Energy and Power Solution equipment program management function responsible for execution governance, procurement coordination, supplier performance, and delivery oversight for power distribution and generation equipment programs.
This role provides leadership across Development Engineering, Estimation, Supply Chain, Sales, Operations, Finance, and Project Execution to support commercial, industrial, utility, data center, EV charging, microgrid, backup power, distributed generation, and energy transition applications.
This position emphasizes people leadership, PMO discipline, technical rigor, customer engagement, scalable equipment delivery, and strong execution controls within an EPC framework.
Equipment PMO Leadership
- Lead the Equipment PMO function responsible for execution oversight of power distribution and generation equipment programs.
- Adopt and implement PMO governance standards, execution playbooks, stage-gate processes, reporting dashboards, escalation protocols, risk registers, and portfolio review cadences.
- Establish consistent processes for scope validation, estimating support, procurement readiness, schedule tracking, supplier coordination, change management, issue resolution, and executive reporting.
- Provide leadership visibility into portfolio health, long-lead equipment exposure, supplier constraints, project risks, delivery commitments, and recovery plans.
- Build, lead, coach, and develop a team of Technical Project Managers, Equipment Project Managers, and related equipment execution resources.
- Set team priorities, manage workload allocation, define performance expectations, and ensure accountability for execution quality, stakeholder engagement, and project outcomes.
- Support hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, career development, succession planning, and retention of PMO talent.
- Create a team culture grounded in ownership, urgency, technical rigor, collaboration, commercial discipline, and customer commitment.
- Oversee execution support for power distribution & generation equipment including switchgear, switchboards, transformers, automatic transfer switches, panelboards, disconnects, paralleling gear, gensets and related electrical infrastructure.
- Ensure project teams interpret one-line diagrams, technical specifications, submittals, equipment schedules, customer requirements, utility standards, and construction documents to support accurate scope definition and equipment configuration.
- Provide governance over equipment estimating inputs, RFQs, quotation evaluations, procurement recommendations, purchase orders, change orders, submittal coordination, manufacturing schedules, FAT planning, logistics tracking, and commissioning handoffs.
- Standardize equipment solutions, supplier engagement models, technical review processes, and execution playbooks across relevant market segments.
Supply Chain & Risk Management
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with OEMs, manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers supporting power distribution and generation equipment.
- Establish a proactive risk management framework for long-lead equipment, manufacturing delays, logistics constraints, quality issues, technical deviations, scope changes, warranty matters, and customer-impacting delivery risks.
- Coordinate mitigation plans with Engineering, Estimation, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Sales, Operations, and Project Execution teams to protect scope, schedule, budget, margin, and customer commitments.
- Lead portfolio reviews, executive briefings, customer escalations, supplier escalation meetings, project recovery planning, and lessons-learned reviews.
- Serve as the senior PMO leader and escalation point for equipment-related execution across customers, vendors, manufacturers, Engineering, Estimation, Supply Chain, Sales, Operations, Logistics, Finance, and executive leadership.
- Support strategic pursuits, customer meetings, supplier reviews, project kickoffs, technical reviews, commercial discussions, and major issue resolution.
- Ensure alignment between customer expectations, technical requirements, equipment procurement, supplier delivery, field execution, and financial performance.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, Supply Chain, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in equipment project management, program management, electrical infrastructure, power distribution, power generation, EPC, design-build, electrical contracting, equipment manufacturing, utility infrastructure, or energy-related project execution.
- Minimum 5 years of people management experience leading project managers, technical project managers, program managers, procurement execution teams, engineering coordination teams, or related technical delivery functions.
- Demonstrated experience with power distribution and/or generation equipment such as switchgear, switchboards, transformers, ATS, E-Houses, MCCs, generators, backup power systems, battery systems, microgrids, transfer systems, or related infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of equipment procurement, supplier management, estimating support, submittals, manufacturing schedules, FAT coordination, logistics planning, commissioning handoff, warranty support, and project controls.
- Experience operating within an EPC, construction, design-build, infrastructure, utility, data center, industrial, or energy transition environment.
- Ability to interpret one-line diagrams, technical specifications, equipment schedules, submittals, construction documents, customer requirements, and supplier proposals.
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, stakeholder management, commercial judgment, risk management, and executive reporting skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with ERP, CRM, procurement, project management, scheduling, and reporting platforms.
- Ability to travel up to 25% for customer meetings, supplier reviews, factory visits, site visits, project escalations, and business reviews.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in equipment program management, power distribution, power generation, electrical infrastructure, EPC execution, supplier management, or technical delivery leadership.
- Experience supporting data centers, critical power facilities, utility infrastructure, renewable energy, microgrids, backup power systems, EV charging deployments, industrial facilities, or large-scale infrastructure programs.
- Established relationships with major electrical equipment manufacturers and generation equipment suppliers such as Eaton, Schneider Electric, Siemens, ABB, Caterpillar, Cummins, Generac, or similar OEMs and suppliers.
- Experience building or scaling a PMO, equipment execution function, procurement governance model, or technical delivery organization.
- Experience with NEC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI, UL, utility interconnection standards, customer specifications, and electrical equipment testing requirements.
- Experience managing supplier framework agreements, preferred vendor programs, supplier scorecards, strategic sourcing initiatives, and executive-level supplier relationships.
- PMP, PE, MBA, CAPM, CSCP, Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent certification preferred.
- This position may require travel up to 25% for customer meetings, site visits, factory inspections, supplier business reviews, project escalations, FAT support, and strategic planning sessions.
- The role involves office-based work, remote collaboration, customer engagement, supplier coordination, executive communication, and occasional on-site inspections or assessments.
