Maintenance Specialist
Atlanta, GA (Central Atl)

Position Overview: The Facilities Technician is responsible for ensuring the commercial bakery facility, equipment, and grounds remain clean, safe, and fully operational to support daily food production. This role performs hands-on maintenance, basic repairs, and preventative upkeep on bakery equipment and building systems. The Technician works closely with production and sanitation teams to maintain food safety, cleanliness, and equipment efficiency in a fast-paced environment.

Primary Accountabilities

  1. Repair & Maintenance
  1. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on bakery production equipment (e.g., mixers, ovens, proofers, conveyors, refrigeration units).
  2. Inspect and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems within the bakery.
  3. Support installation and setup of new equipment under direction of management or contractors.
  4. Monitor and maintain tools, parts, and supplies needed for daily maintenance tasks.
  5. Document all repairs and maintenance activities in accordance with bakery SOPs.
  1. Facilities Upkeep
  1. Conduct regular inspections of the facility to identify wear, hazards, or repair needs.
  2. Maintain a clean and organized maintenance workspace that meets food safety and OSHA standards.
  3. Assist with upkeep of building exteriors, floors, ceilings, lights, restrooms, and support areas.
  4. Support janitorial, pest control, and sanitation efforts as needed to maintain facility cleanliness.
  1. Safety & Compliance
  1. Follow all safety policies including PPE use, lockout/tagout procedures, and hazard communication.
  2. Support compliance with OSHA, FDA, GMPs, and bakery-specific food safety protocols.
  3. Respond quickly to urgent maintenance requests that may impact food safety or production flow.
  4. Identify and report potential safety or operational risks to supervisors.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Working knowledge of bakery production equipment and commercial food production environments
  2. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems efficiently and safely
  3. Comfortable working in hot, cold, and humid environments typical of baking operations
  4. Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation best practices in manufacturing
  5. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  6. Ability to maintain accurate records and follow maintenance procedures
  7. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  8. Strong data entry and detailed record keeping
  9. Ability to accomplish projects with ambiguous or little direction
  10. Ability to work independently with no supervision, take initiative
  11. Ability to work cross-functionally & at all levels within the organization
  12. Ability to prioritize and adapt in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment


Education, Experience and/or Certifications

  1. 3–5 years of experience in facilities or equipment maintenance, preferably in a food production or commercial bakery setting
  2. High school diploma or equivalent required
  3. Technical or trade certification in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical systems is a plus
  4. Familiarity with food production equipment strongly preferred

Performance in this role is measured by:
  1. Equipment Uptime/Downtime – Maintain equipment uptime at or above 95%
  2. Work Order Completion Rate – Complete 90% of work orders within scheduled timelines
  3. Preventive vs. Reactive Maintenance Ration – Maintain at least 70% of maintenance activities as preventive rather than reactive maintenance.
  4. Response Time to Urgent Repairs – Respond to urgent breakdowns within 15 minutes and resolve within 2 hours; on average
