Job Summary
The Forklift Operator is responsible for safely operating industrial forklifts and yard trucks to load, unload, and transport materials within a warehouse or yard environment. This role plays a key part in maintaining efficient yard operations by positioning trailers, organizing materials, and supporting logistics and maintenance activities. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, dependable, and comfortable working outdoors in a fast-paced setting.
Job Description
- Operate forklifts to load and unload materials, deliveries, and equipment
- Move materials between storage areas, loading docks, trucks, and railcars
- Position trailers for loading and unloading using yard trucks or tractors
- Inspect equipment and vehicles to ensure safe operation and report any issues
- Maintain organization of the yard, including cleaning and arranging equipment
- Assist with loading and unloading shipments accurately and efficiently
- Support mechanics with testing equipment and basic yard-related tasks
- Communicate effectively with warehouse and logistics teams to coordinate operations
- Follow all safety procedures and protocols to ensure a safe work environment
- Perform general yard labor as needed
- Shift: 7a m - 4pm, M-F
Skills Required
- 1–3 years of experience operating forklifts or similar equipment
- Experience as a yard jockey or in a similar role is a plus
- Ability to operate yard trucks and maneuver trailers safely
- Strong understanding of safety practices and equipment handling
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Good driving skills and spatial awareness
- Strong attention to detail and safety
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
- Reliable and able to work independently or as part of a team
- This role requires hands-on work in an outdoor yard setting
- Candidates must be comfortable performing a mix of equipment operation and general labor tasks
- Flexibility and willingness to assist in various yard operations are essential
Education
- Highschool diploma or GED
Pay Rate
- $20 - $24 per hour (Compensation will be offered within this posted range based on experience, skills, and market factors)
