We are looking for a dependable, hardworking, and team-oriented Facilities Assistant who is ready to jump in, support daily operations, and help keep our facilities running at their very best. Position Summary:

The Facilities Assistant supports the overall cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the facility by performing daily janitorial tasks and light maintenance duties. This role ensures that all workspaces, common areas, and grounds remain clean, well-organized, and in good working condition. The Facilities Assistant provides essential support to the facilities team and may assist with minor repairs, room setups, and general upkeep as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Janitorial Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, offices, hallways, classrooms, and common areas.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors in all assigned spaces.
  • Empty trash and recycling bins and transport waste to designated collection areas.
  • Refill restroom supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
  • Dust furniture, fixtures, vents, windowsills, and high-touch surfaces.
  • Clean glass doors, windows, and interior partitions as assigned.
  • Maintain cleanliness of breakrooms, kitchens, and eating areas.
  • Disinfect surfaces and follow proper cleaning procedures to support health and safety.

Light Maintenance and Facility Responsibilities

  • Perform routine building maintenance and repairs including plumbing, carpentry, painting, furniture repair, and minor electrical or mechanical tasks.
  • Report maintenance issues and unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Assist with room setups, furniture moves, equipment transport, and event preparations.
  • Maintain outdoor areas including walkways, entrances, parking lots, and grounds.
  • Restock facility supplies and assist with inventory as directed.
  • Help maintain organized storage areas and ensure materials are properly stored.
  • Provide emergency response and on-call assistance for urgent facility issues.
  • Respond to and complete maintenance requests in a timely manner; update the facility ticket/log system.

General Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and report maintenance needs or safety hazards.
  • Assume responsibility for the delivery and coordination of food, materials, and other operational supplies to various organizational sites as needed.
  • Support vendor and contractor visits by escorting, monitoring, and ensuring compliance with safety and organizational standards.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards.
  • Participate in safety drills and support emergency preparedness activities.
  • Provide updates to immediate supervisor regarding facility conditions, repairs, and ongoing needs.
  • Operate and drive Our House vans as needed.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.

Experience

  • Prior experience in custodial, maintenance, warehouse, or general labor work required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform hands-on maintenance tasks (plumbing, electrical, HVAC basics, carpentry, painting).
  • Experience supporting multiple sites or high-traffic facilities preferred.

Schedule Requirements:

  • 20-hour workweek, Monday through Friday during standard business hours.
  • Must be available for emergencies and on-call support outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends as needed to address urgent facility issues.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, and reach for extended periods of time.
  • Comfortable working on ladders and in confined spaces as needed.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Capable of performing physical labor and responding quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to visually inspect facilities and equipment to identify maintenance needs.

Health Requirements:

  • Proof of Tuberculosis (TB) test clearance required prior to employment.
  • Must comply with any additional health screenings or vaccinations required by Our House or other regulatory agencies.

Work Environment:

  • Team-oriented environment with regular communication across departments.
  • Fast-paced, collaborative, and service-oriented, supporting both internal staff and organizational initiatives.
  • Operates in both indoor and outdoor settings across multiple facilities.
  • May be exposed to varying weather conditions, dust, noise, and potentially hazardous materials.
  • Requires occasional work in confined spaces or at elevated heights.
  • May involve working around children, families, and program staff in an active community-based environment.

Other Requirement:

  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel between sites as needed.
  • Must have the ability to drive Our House vans as needed.
  • Must have an active driver’s license with a clean driving record.

The actual salary offered is determined by considering each candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, and certifications or other professional licenses held.
