Audit Control Technician
The Position
The purpose of this classification is to control, audit, and input information on all customer accounts; this involves information analysis, problem solving, and retrieval of all data needed to prepare accounts for accurate billing. Maintains communication with all WG&L departments to ensure information transfer.
Duties
Inputs new customer account information; researches and audits all customer account information; updates data as needed and inputs final information; reviews all information for accuracy. Retrieves a variety of work orders and related print outs from dispatch and customer service; researches work order information; counts, prepares, and inputs work orders into computerized database. Prepares work orders for input; prepares move in and move out work orders, meter change work orders, meter removal work orders, and non-pay work orders. Organizes, separates, and prioritizes all service orders and information routed to the Audit Control Department. Post readings from self-read cards and dial changes; post negative consumption readings when verified before billing. Consults with Meter Shop on all meters found in the field with no installation information in the Banner System. Prepares information for adjustments to be completed on accounts over billed or under billed; inputs financial adjustments; forwards adjustment paperwork to Special Services to credit or debit accounts. Audits final bills produced each night; reviews for over reads, negative consumptions, data entry errors, adjustments, and deposits applied. Audits and clears all metered services from the Meter Reading Exceptions Table; prints necessary reports. Enters billing information and changes on Effluent Sewer Billing; maintains files, changes, and all prior billing amounts. Verifies usage reports; reviews computer print outs of unusually high/low meter readings; creates re-check tickets to verify readings; reviews returned re-check tickets, makes corrections, and posts readings as appropriate. Inputs billing information for streetlights, industrial gas, sewer and gas, and related utility services; enters information from special reports for billing such as hydrant reports, interruptible gas reports, etc.; prepares large industrial accounts for billing. Audits/ prepares a variety of reports, final bills, cycle audits, transaction journals, service requests, trouble tickets, re-check tickets, and related documentation; processes, copies, files, and/or submits as appropriate. Performs a variety of clerical tasks such as making copies, filing, faxing, and separating print outs of various reports; distributes to appropriate division or department, and performs related duties. Answers the telephone and provides information, takes/relays messages, or forwards to appropriate individual. Checks mail and retrieves bills daily. Consults with various departments to obtain necessary information. Audits services with no established routes. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Reviews Audit Control Trouble tickets as required. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by one (1) year previous experience and/or training involving data entry and clerical work required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Typing and keyboard experience preferred.

Functional Reasoning: Requires ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action. Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria. ADA COMPLIANCE Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
