Pastor

Southside Baptist Church located at 409 Cobb Street in Cedartown, Georgia is seeking a Pastor to lead the church in worship, fellowship, and spiritual growth. Southside is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention, the Georgia Baptist Mission Board, and the Polk-Haralson Baptist Association.

Founded in 1930, we are a traditional church that meets on Sunday mornings for Sunday School and Worship, and on Wednesday evenings for Bible Study.

We believe a pastor should meet the following qualifications set forth in 1Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus1:5-9.

He must:

· be blameless (irreproachable, impeccable in reputation)

· be the husband of one (living) wife (includes not being divorced)

· be vigilant (temperate, not given to or controlled by fleshly passion and sensual appetites)

· be sober (to be of sound mind possessing good judgement)

· display good behavior (orderly in life, habits, and work)

· be given to hospitality

· be apt to teach (skilled in teaching the Scriptures)

· be no striker (not violent)

· not greedy of filthy lucre (not fond of dishonest gain)

· patient, not a brawler (considerate and peaceable)

· not covetous (his main desire must not be the acquisition of money)

· one who manages his family well and is respected by them

· not a novice (defined as a new convert or young Christian)

· be of good report (not an object of justifiable criticism)

· be a believer and teacher of sound doctrine and able to refute unsound doctrine

· be devout and appreciate good people and good things

Duties of the Pastor include but are not limited to:

· preach the word of God

· administer the ordinances of the gospel

· serve on all committees

· responsible for oversight of all programs and/or ministries of SBC

· supervise all Officers and the employed SBC staff, having the right to dismiss or reprimand staff if needed

· lead the church to hire staff when needed in association with the Personnel Committee (consisting of the pastor and his appointment of three active deacons) and the Stewardship and Budget Committee

· humbly watch over the spiritual interest of all the SBC membership

· serve as moderator of all business meetings of the church

If the Pastor is Bi-Vocational we ask that he try to hold the amount of time away from our pulpit to a minimum. The church is willing to assist the Bi-Vocational Pastor in the performance of ministerial duties, recognizing the limitations placed upon him by having employment other than the church.
