Staff Accountant
Rhodes, Young, Black & Duncan, CPA is looking for a Staff Tax Accountant to join our team in Duluth.
Candidate will be responsible for preparing monthly financial statements for clients and preparing complex individual and/or business tax returns. Have some experience in small business bookkeeping, accounting & income tax preparation for individuals as well as all entity type returns (Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S, 990, 706 & 709)

Responsibilities:
- Prepare federal and state tax returns for individuals and various business entity types
- Prepare and understand financial statements
- Assistance in research and analysis of accounting and tax issues
- Month/Quarter end close; calculate, review and process journal entries and balance sheet/account reconciliation
- Reconcile bank and credit card statements, accounts receivable, accounts payable and loan accounts
- Maintain fixed assets and record depreciation
- Payroll processing and sales tax filing
- Embrace technology to create efficiencies
- Identify and communicate potential problem areas during engagements
- Conduct business specific research – gather and analyze data, interpret results, compile reports and make recommendations to managers and partners
- Develop effective client relationships through professionalism and follow-through
- Other duties and projects assigned
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years’ general accounting experience, preferable public
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- Exhibit basic understanding of accounting and tax rules
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
- Advanced MS Excel skills including V-lookups and pivot tables
- Experience with UltraTax, Advanceflow and Go-file Room a plus
- Experience with QuickBooks and QuickBooks Online
- Experience with QuickBooks Client set-up including Chart of Accounts and some clean-up
- Experience with QuickBooks conversion from desktop to on-line
- Experience with Adobe Acrobat and MS Office Suite
- Payroll experience
- Perform work accurately and in a time efficient manner, with strong attention to detail, organization and follow through
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to accept constructive feedback, making adjustments as directed
- Ability to work collaboratively and foster a productive, team-oriented environment with both colleagues and clients
- Must possess excellent communication skills and be comfortable with client contact
- Adhere to internal Firm deadlines (time entry)
- Able to contribute ideas and add value to team
- Pursuing CPA license – ability to sit for CPA exam or passed sections of the CPA exam a plus
