JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Radiology Director, the Radiology PCT assists radiology technologists with patient care and department tasks, including preparing patients for imaging procedures, recording vital signs, transporting patients, maintaining equipment, performing clerical duties, and ensuring patient safety and comfort during diagnostic imaging. The position supports the patient experience and contributes to the efficient operation of the radiology department in compliance with TJC, federal, state, and local regulations, as well as organizational and departmental policies and procedures. The role involves communication with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. This position requires self-motivation and the ability to function in a semi-autonomous capacity within a fast-paced environment.

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

• Patient Assistance:

· Escort patients to and from the radiology department.

· Assist patients with moving, lifting, and repositioning, especially those with limited mobility.

· Ensure patient comfort and modesty during procedures.

· Help patients change into examination attire and secure their valuables.

• Patient Care:

· Contrast CT Support: Perform contrast assessments and start IVs for CT patients when needed to support technologist workflow.

· Obtain and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, etc.).

· Collect specimens for laboratory tests.

· Provide basic patient care such as assisting with daily living activities.

• Department Support:

· Prepare rooms and equipment for imaging procedures.

· Assist with the maintenance and cleaning of equipment.

· Help technologists prepare and position patients for procedures.

· Transport images and paperwork to appropriate areas.

· Restock supplies, check inventories, and assist with basic equipment cleaning/upkeep.

• Clerical & Administrative Support:

· Assist with data entry, patient charts, and record keeping.

· Communicate with referring offices to clarify orders or obtain necessary information.

· Coordinate with other departments or patient scheduling coordinators.

· Answer department phones, assist with outpatient order entry, provide instructions, and support scheduling follow-up tasks when other duties are low.

• Safety & Compliance:

· Adhere to established healthcare standards, policies, and procedures.

· Maintain a safe and organized care environment.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Level of Education : Education level equivalent to completion of high school or documented directly related work experience will serve as an equivalent to completed education.

Formal Training: Documented training on vitals, phlebotomy procedures and Glucose testing strongly preferred.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: PCT, C.N.A, CMA, MA, EMT or Paramedic certification with the state of Georgia, or Certified Phlebotomist with demonstrated patient care work experience. BLS Certification required within 30 days of hire.

Substitutions Allowed : Certificate of Completion from the U.S. Military Medic Program or currently enrolled in a nursing program with the completion of one full semester of clinical rotations from an accredited school.

Work Experience: Six (6) months of work experience performing advanced skilled nurse aid duties and responsibilities or currently enrolled in a Radiology or Nursing program preferred

Tools and Equipment Used: Calculator, personal computer, telephone, facsimile machine, paper shredder, copier, printer, standard radiology equipment to include X-Ray or Mammography and/or Dexa.
