Job Description



The Plastic Molding Engineer is a "hands-on" position that plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing equipment and processes to produce high quality injection molded product. The Plastic Molding Engineer is responsible for coordinating the molding efforts on new program launches, setting up and/or revising manufacturing processes and assisting in problem solving and continuous process improvements. This position also mentors and provides training to other injection molding personnel.

Qualifications



Main accountabilities and tasks

  1. Design and implement injection molding processes for new and existing products, including establishing robust and repeatable process parameters.
  2. Develop and implement scientific-based processes and generate documentation and controls to ensure efficient and optimal run consistency.
  3. Continuously improve manufacturing methods and processes, utilizing techniques like Design of Experiments (DOEs), lean manufacturing principles, and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  4. Analyze manufacturing data, monitor cycle times and production efficiency, and identify and resolve production issues and defects using root cause analysis.
  5. Ensure quality output of molded components, conduct trials and validation studies, and implement and maintain manufacturing best practices.
  6. Develop and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, troubleshooting guides, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  7. Ensure conformance to specifications and compliance with Good Practice (GxP) procedures, such as those found in the medical device industry.
  8. Work with equipment and material vendors to resolve machine and equipment issues.
  9. Monitor and report issues with injection molds, make recommendations for refurbishment based on production factors such as cycles, process capability and tooling history.
  1. Identify and implement cost optimization and reduction initiatives.
  1. Maintain high quality standards through on-the-floor interaction with employees to ensure quality and accuracy in each step of the production process.
  2. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to process technicians, operators and other molding personnel.
  3. Ensure that all business activities conform to local laws and regulations and are following company policies and procedures.

 

Desired experience and

qualifications

Work experience : 5 years in an injection molding manufacturing environment

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering

Other:

  1. Experience in processing of thermoplastics, robotics, automation and hot runner systems.
  2. Strong and diverse technical background in injection molding processing, tooling, equipment, materials, manufacturing and quality.
  3. Self-starter must be able to work with little direction and with a high level of self-motivation
  4. Strong written and verbal communication skills
  5. Ability to work in an interruption-prone environment
  6. Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) 
  7. Strong TEAM and LEAD mentality required
  8. Quality orientation and high attention to detail
  9. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  10. Complex problem-solving capabilities
  11. Commitment to workplace safety
  12. Must be able to clearly present ideas and reports in written and verbal format.
