The Industrial Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing plant and facility equipment under the direction of the Maintenance Manager. This includes mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and HVAC systems, as well as facility upkeep and support equipment. The role operates within the spare parts inventory program and may assist with ordering parts as needed.
This position requires safe operation of forklifts, clamp-lifts, and man-lifts, as well as adherence to all safety and housekeeping standards in both Maintenance and Production areas. The technician will also support spinning pack cleaning and maintenance, contribute to cost-improvement initiatives, and may provide training or guidance to General Maintenance Assistants.
Given the sensitive nature of company operations, the technician must maintain strict professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
The IEMT position reports to the Maintenance Manager / Assistant Maintenance Manager, and it is an hourly, non-exempt position with no direct reports.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repair
- Perform scheduled daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
- Conduct safety inspections and address hazards promptly.
- Troubleshoot and repair machinery and equipment as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
- Assist with maintaining spare parts inventory and related documentation.
- Participate in installation and commissioning of new projects.
- Support building maintenance tasks, including landscaping, sprinkler systems, HVAC, and lighting.
- Document plant equipment maintenance activities and process improvements.
Operational Support
- Operate forklifts, clamp-lifts, and man-lifts safely.
- Assist in cleaning, disassembling, and reassembling spinning packs.
- Maintain clean and orderly work areas in Maintenance and Production.
- Assist other departments as needed.
Training & Continuous Improvement
- Participate in ongoing safety, ISO, and quality training.
- Participate in professional development and training activities.
- Contribute ideas for improving plant operations and reducing costs.
- Provide guidance or training to co-workers when requested.
Qualifications
- Degree, certification, or equivalent technical training in industrial maintenance, electronics technology, or related field; or a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency with electrical/electronic test equipment (multimeter, amp probe, loop calibrator).
- Ability to interpret electrical/electronic schematics.
- Working knowledge of PLCs, variable speed drives, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, chill water, and HVAC.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access; basic typing skills required.
- Good communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to learn quickly.
- Flexible, organized, and able to handle multiple priorities in a changing environment.
- Dependable transportation and reliable means of contact.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
· Regular activities: sitting, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, reaching, handling, hearing, and talking.
· Exposure to strobe lights, heights, and non-temperature-controlled conditions.
· Frequent work on large automated production machinery and equipment.
· Capable of lifting 35 lbs. continuously and 50 lbs. as needed (with assistance for weights over 50 lbs.).
· Comfortable working at heights, on elevated platforms, and in non-climate-controlled environments.
· Able to operate industrial lift trucks and scissor lifts.
Work Schedule & Expectations
- Ability to work assigned shifts, including 12-hour continental shifts (day or night), with possible rotation, overtime, and on-call duties to support emergencies and 24/7/365 plant operation.
- Designated training period will be determined during new hire probationary period. Work hours during training are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with flexibility to adjust work hours based on business needs. Following completion of training, transition to the 12-hour Continental Shift.
