Maintenance Technician

Woodbine, GA

Job Title: Maintenance Technician – 2nd Shift

Pay: $24

Shift: 2nd: 10am-7pm Mon-Fri

Job Description

This Maintenance Technician role focuses on keeping a climate-controlled food production facility running safely and efficiently. You will perform primarily mechanical maintenance with light electrical work on production equipment and facility systems, support preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and help maintain a clean, food-safe environment. The position starts with training on earlier shifts before transitioning to a permanent 3rd shift schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example by modeling the organization’s mission and values and support holding maintenance technicians accountable to these standards each day.
  • Perform building HVAC, plumbing, electrical, PLC, and mechanical repairs as needed to keep equipment and facilities operating safely and reliably.
  • Maintain and repair food production equipment, including conveyors, mixers, lifts, solburns (roller grill machines with clutch and drive valves), and other minor production equipment and facility systems.
  • Utilize an e-maintenance system to manage equipment records, preventive maintenance processes, parts ordering, and predictive maintenance activities.
  • Implement and follow preventive and predictive maintenance measures and procedures for production and facility equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of repair equipment, supplies, and tools to ensure timely and efficient maintenance work.
  • Keep maintenance areas organized and clean, and ensure they meet all required food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Complete regular inspections of facilities and equipment in coordination with the Maintenance Manager to identify issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Respond quickly to equipment and facility emergencies, notify appropriate personnel, and follow established safety protocols.
  • Proactively propose and support hygienic equipment design improvements and implement ideas that reduce waste, improve equipment uptime, and enhance employee safety.
  • Regularly clean, inspect, and maintain tools in an organized, lean manner to ensure they are safe and ready for use.
  • Perform other maintenance duties and special projects as requested by management.
  • Work collaboratively with production, quality, and other departments to coordinate equipment downtime, support food safety requirements, and facilitate efficient maintenance processes.
  • Support sanitation expectations by sanitizing equipment and work areas before and after maintenance activities, and by complying with all food-grade quality and inspection requirements.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on mechanical maintenance experience, with an emphasis on small component and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • HVAC experience sufficient to perform maintenance and basic repairs on facility systems.
  • Electrical experience, including working with 240V systems and performing light electrical troubleshooting and repair.
  • Experience maintaining production or manufacturing equipment, preferably in a food manufacturing environment or similar industrial setting.
  • Ability to read and work from schematics and technical documentation for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting hydraulics and pneumatics and performing related repairs.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance and maintenance repair practices in a manufacturing or facilities environment.
  • Ability to use or learn an e-maintenance or computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking work orders, preventive maintenance, and parts.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and facilities maintenance issues.
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and follow established safety protocols.
  • Willingness and ability to work 3rd shift hours (approximately 11:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m.) and occasional Saturdays as needed to support equipment uptime.
  • Capability to work independently for portions of the shift while also collaborating effectively with maintenance leadership and other departments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in automotive maintenance or HVAC is beneficial due to the emphasis on mechanical and component-level work.
  • Experience in food manufacturing is strongly preferred because of the need to work with food-safe equipment and adhere to strict sanitation and quality standards.
  • Experience in general manufacturing maintenance or as a plant technician is highly transferable and valued.
  • Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting is helpful but not required, as PLC work is a minimal factor in this role.
  • Comfort working with climate-controlled production equipment and facility systems.
  • Ability to adapt to additional documentation, inspections, and procedures associated with food-grade environments, including working within a more regulated, process-driven setting.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain tools, parts, and maintenance areas in a lean and orderly manner.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety practices.

Why Work Here?

You will work in a clean, climate-controlled environment that values safety, organization, and quality. The company offers structured training on earlier shifts before moving to 3rd shift, ensuring you are well-supported as you learn the equipment and processes. You will collaborate with a dedicated maintenance team and cross-functional departments in a setting that emphasizes preventive maintenance, continuous improvement, and hygienic design. The environment promotes clear procedures, strong support from maintenance leadership, and a culture that prioritizes equipment reliability, employee safety, and food safety.

Work Environment

The role is based in a climate-controlled food production facility with a strong focus on cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety. You will start on first shift for training, then train on second shift, and ultimately move to a full-time 3rd shift schedule, typically from 11:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays as needed to support equipment uptime. You will troubleshoot and maintain conveyors, mixers, lifts, solburns (roller grill machines with clutches and drive valves), and other minor production and facility equipment, with less emphasis on refrigeration. A Maintenance Planner is on-site from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and the Maintenance Manager typically works from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., so you will work independently for the last portion of the shift, with leadership available for support when needed. The facility operates under strict food-grade standards, with quality assurance inspecting work for compliance. You will wear smocks, hair nets, and other required protective attire, and you must sanitize equipment and work areas before and after all maintenance tasks. The environment includes additional procedures and oversight (“red tape”) consistent with food-safe operations, and emphasizes organization, lean practices, and adherence to safety and hygiene protocols.
