Associate Pastor/Music Director
Associate Pastor/Music Director
Centennial Baptist Church, located in historic Rutledge, GA., has ministered in its community for over 150 years. Centennial Baptist has a rich history of long-term leadership and a commitment to its community. Worship is central to the church’s life, blending biblical truth and heartfelt praise to lead people into a deeper relationship with God. Centennial Baptist is a conservative Southern Baptist church. Average worship attendance is 150, with an average of 110 in Sunday School. Our worship style is blended, embracing the richness of traditional hymns, the passion of contemporary praise and worship, the beauty of choir-led music, and special musical offerings. Our desire is for every service to be a Spirit-led experience that draws hearts closer to God and centers on His Word.
The Associate Pastor Minister of Music will oversee the leading of Spirit-led: music, choir, praise team, praise band, and sound team, as well as Youth Director, Children’s Director, and Administrative Assistant. He will be capable of fulfilling the duties assigned within this description as well as those assigned by the senior pastor.
Primary Responsibilities:
Consult with the senior pastor regarding themes of regular services and special events for appropriate musical selection as needed.
Lead vocally and instrumentally during the song service at regular and special services, utilizing the praise team, praise band, and choir as needed.
Oversee the choir, praise team, praise band, and sound team with recruitment, rehearsals, musical training, and spiritual nurture. This includes incorporating youth into these areas on a regular basis. (If a separate youth choir and youth band are wanted for special events, please consult with the senior pastor.)
Supervise the scheduling and coordination of all vocalists, instrumentalists, and sound technicians.
Be responsible for the normal checking of equipment and maintaining personal relationships with your volunteers. (Relay any maintenance or PR issues to the senior pastor.)
Be on time with practices out of respect for your volunteers, other staff members, and Sunday School teachers.
Be present at all weekly staff meetings.
Be able to prepare a budget for the music ministry. Please see the senior pastor for any help and/or advice in this area.
Be available to help with voluntary Church outreach.
Communicate well with the senior pastor (and other staff members when applicable) on time off, events, sickness, ministry decisions, etc.
Aid in visitation with the senior pastor as requested or perform visitation in his absence.
Be able to fill in and preach when the senior pastor is out of town or sick. This means being prepared with last-minute sermons.
Be able to get additional tasks done in an orderly fashion.
Be able to attend meetings as requested by the senior pastor. (Ex. Associational meetings, GBC meetings, etc.)
Be able to fill in on Wednesday nights that the senior pastor cannot attend.
Be available for events such as funerals, weddings, and others that take place on church property.
Ministerial Expectations
Be Spirit-led. Always keeping our wants in proper perspective in line with the leading of the Spirit.
Be willing to learn. We are all able to learn something new even in the most negative of situations.
Have a positive attitude towards your work and other staff members. If there are any internal issues, please see the senior pastor to resolve them. If your issue is with the senior pastor, have a conversation with him first and if unresolved, consult the deacon body.
Be loving. The core of our belief is love. Love should be the very basis for any conversation song, or work that we do.
Be relational. Build relationships with church members and welcome newcomers with open arms and a warm smile.
Be inviting. Have conversations with potential volunteers without ever forcing anyone or making them feel bad for not helping.
Be communicative. Communicate well concerning every area of your ministry. This includes time off, work related issues, etc.
Be respectful. God places certain people in our lives for a reason. Trust in His wisdom and timing.
Be calm, cool, and collected. It is easy to get upset at people, especially in ministry. However, we are to strive for peace with our fellow man. Stressful situations will arise, but remain calm, cool, and collected.
Be responsible. When mistakes are made, own them.
