POSITION OVERVIEW
The mission of Mary Hall Freedom Village, Inc. (MHFV) is to empower women, children, veterans, and families to end the cycle of homelessness, addiction, and poverty.
Headquarters are in Sandy Springs, GA and with seven facilities across Metro Atlanta, Mary Hall Freedom Village has been transforming the lives of participants in need for the last 30 years. The Program Services Counselor provides individual and group counseling to participants and families diagnosed with substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders. Identifies at-risk behaviors and formulates appropriate clinical interventions to assist the participant in making healthy choices and decisions to promote abstinence and recovery.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide individual counseling sessions focused on recovery, coping skills, relapse prevention, and behavioral change.
- Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic group counseling sessions.
- Monitor participant progress and update treatment plans as needed.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation.
- Complete progress notes, discharge summaries, treatment updates, and incident reports.
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support when necessary.
- Assess participants for relapse risks, safety concerns, and co-occurring mental health conditions.
- Coordinate referrals for medical, psychiatric, housing, vocational, and community support services.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment teams and external providers.
- Assist participants with discharge planning and continuing care services.
- Educate participants and families on addiction, recovery, relapse prevention, and available resources.
- Encourage participant engagement, accountability, and participation in treatment services.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, state regulations, and organizational policies.
- Participate in case staffing, treatment team meetings, and clinical supervision.
- Maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards in all participant interactions.
- Utilize evidence-based treatment approaches, including Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
- Support participants in developing healthy coping mechanisms and recovery support systems.
- Assist with urine drug screenings and other program compliance requirements when applicable.
- Advocate for participant needs and access to appropriate recovery resources.
- Maintain CADC II certification and complete required continuing education training.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff or program leadership.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- This position holds no supervisory responsibilities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience working with individuals diagnosed with substance use disorder and/or cooccurring disorders.
- Must be computer literate and familiar with all Microsoft Office products.
- Must be able to pass background screening which includes fingerprinting.

REQUIRED SKILLS, CAPABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE
- Master’s degree (MA/MS/M.Ed.) with experience and/or documented training in clinical settings (behavioral health facility or psychiatric hospital)
- Must be provisionally or fully licensed in counseling, social work or marriage and family therapy in the State of Georgia and/or possess a CADC-II credential recognized by the State of Georgia
