The Role:St Albans Sporting Club is a flagship private social, dining, and travel club. We are seeking a dynamic, multi-faceted General Manager to lead the operations of this unique property. While world-class food and beverage will be a central pillar of your focus, this role transcends traditional restaurant management. You will serve as the operational anchor for a premier private membership ecosystem, ensuring an unparalleled, high-touch experience across every touchpoint of the Club.
As the General Manager, you will be a direct ambassador for both St Albans Sporting Club and Indigo Road, authentically embracing our commitment to Internal Hospitality. You will look after all aspects of the property—including club operations, F&B execution, financial performance, membership culture, curated programming, retail, and staff development.
What we will ask of you:
- Elevate the Member Experience: Partner closely with the St Albans Sporting Club leadership team to deliver a seamless, exceptional member experience across all aspects of the Club, maintaining the highest standards well beyond just food and beverage.
- Cultivate Community & Culture: Build deep, meaningful relationships with club members. Serve as a visible, engaging ambassador for the Club’s lifestyle, values, and distinct culture.
- Drive Curated Programming: Support member programming, high-end signature events, and private club functions in tight coordination with the Membership, Programming, and Marketing teams.
- Lead Launch Operations: Actively assist with opening preparations, including talent acquisition, team training, the development of rigorous SOPs, and cross-departmental coordination to bring the flagship online successfully.
- Oversee Club Commerce: Help manage and oversee the Club's retail operations and branded merchandise programs, ensuring brand alignment and quality control.
- Nurture & Enrich Your Team: Foster staff development and cultivate a positive, collaborative atmosphere that motivates our team while effectively meeting P&L goals. Educate junior team members and fiercely advocate for their professional growth.
- Be the Solution: Oversee day-to-day property dynamics, proactively resolving challenges by maintaining clear, open communication with team members, leadership, and the member community
Requirements for Success:
- Proven Leadership: 5+ years of successfully running a high-volume, upscale, food-focused restaurant or premium hospitality operation (ideally managing 200–300 covers in an elevated environment).
- Private Club Capability: Demonstrated experience or a strong aptitude for luxury hospitality, member relations, and managing multi-faceted private event execution.
- Industry Curiosity: A genuine desire and excitement to learn about the outdoor sporting industry and lifestyle. While a background in this specific field is not required, you must be eager to immerse yourself in it, connect with our members, and champion the lifestyle authentically.
- Operational Excellence: Exceptional organizational skills, strong financial acumen, and a keen eye for physical and experiential detail.
- Emotional Intelligence: Compassion for people, effective communication skills, and the ability to comfortably navigate important, high-stakes conversations.
