Job Description

Project Engineer I, II, & Project Coordinator

Samet Corporation | Greensboro, NC · Raleigh, NC · Charlotte, NC · Wilmington, NC · Charleston, SC · Savannah, GA

This is an evergreen talent-pipeline posting open across all six Samet offices — not a specific, currently open position.

Great careers rarely start with perfect timing. That’s why we like to meet strong Project Engineers and Coordinators after a seat opens up. Applying here puts you on our radar across all six Samet offices—so when the right opportunity fits, whether that’s now or a few months down the road, we already know you and you already know us. No perfect timing required; we’d just love to start the conversation.

Project Engineers and Coordinators are the engine room of a Samet project team. You keep information, documentation, and people moving, supporting Project Managers with the schedules, budgets, submittals, RFIs, and day-to-day coordination that deliver high-quality construction The Samet Way, on time and on budget.

These are the roles where you learn how a project really runs, with mentorship and structured development through Samet University and Builders Building Builders. Master our systems here and you build the foundation for a Project Manager career. If you’re organized, detail-driven, and eager to grow, this is a great place to start or advance.

Levels & Experience

This posting covers our early- to mid-career project delivery roles. We’ll place you based on background and strengths:

  • Project Coordinator — Focused on coordination and administration: documentation, communications, meeting minutes, procurement support, budgets, and serving as a point of contact for stakeholders. Typically 2–3 years in project coordination or construction administration.
  • Project Engineer — Supports Project Managers with day-to-day operations and technical detail — tracking schedules and budgets and maintaining RFIs, submittals, change orders, and minutes. A strong entry point for early-career professionals.
  • Project Engineer II — A mid-level role providing advanced technical and administrative support, mentoring junior engineers, handling permits and subcontractor coordination, and mastering Samet systems. Typically 3–5 years of construction experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Support Project Managers with day-to-day project operations, coordination, and documentation.
  • Track project schedules, budgets, milestones, and quality benchmarks, and report on progress.
  • Maintain project documentation — RFIs, submittals, change orders, meeting minutes, contracts, and logs.
  • Help manage communication with subcontractors, vendors, and clients, and serve as a point of contact for stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and document meetings and site visits, and distribute updates and status reports.
  • Obtain construction-related permits, file and post required notices, and support regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with subcontractor solicitation, procurement, and contracting, and facilitate material and equipment deliveries.
  • Monitor budgets, identify discrepancies, and help implement cost controls.
  • Learn, master, and apply Samet’s systems, processes, and software (Procore, Bluebeam, scheduling tools) to support project delivery.
  • Support quality control and safety compliance initiatives across the project.
  • Help identify potential issues or delays and escalate to the Project Manager.
  • Mentor and support junior team members (Project Engineer II) and keep project files organized and current.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, architecture, or a related field (preferred).
  • Construction experience appropriate to the level (see Levels & Experience above) — internship experience counts for entry roles.
  • Familiarity with construction and project management software (Procore, Bluebeam) and scheduling tools (Primavera, MS Project) a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Solid understanding of construction processes, terminology, and documentation.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, building codes, and regulations.
  • A detail-oriented, team-first mindset and an eagerness to learn and grow.

Additional Requirements

Physical Demands: A primarily office-based role with frequent, recurring visits to active construction sites. Regularly required to sit, walk (including on rough or uneven surfaces), use hands and fingers to handle equipment and files, reach, drive, bend, talk, see, and hear; occasionally required to stand, climb stairs or ladders, balance, kneel, crouch, or twist, and infrequently to crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Environment: An office environment with frequent, recurring visits to active construction sites, where noise and light levels may be higher and proper PPE is required. Temperature varies by location and season. Frequent travel is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Computer Skills: Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and SharePoint, with the ability to learn industry-standard construction software such as Procore and Bluebeam. Able to collaborate via Zoom or Teams and type professional correspondence.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Able to comprehend and execute detailed written and oral instructions using common-sense reasoning, and to navigate problems involving concrete variables in conventional situations.

Certificates and Licenses: A valid driver’s license is required.

Why Samet

At Samet, we build more than projects — we build people. As one of the fastest-growing construction firms in the Southeast, we give our team the tools, training, and trust to take on real responsibility early and grow into the leaders our projects need.

You’ll learn directly from some of the best builders in the business, backed by structured development through Samet University and Builders Building Builders. You’ll work on meaningful projects, supported by an award-winning safety culture and a team that genuinely looks out for one another. And you’ll do it all The Samet Way — with integrity, a commitment to quality, and a belief that how we build matters as much as what we build.

If you’re ready to grow your career with a company that’s invested in your success, we’d love to meet you.
