Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated Machine Apprentice to join our production team and learn the art and science of label printing. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in the printing industry. You'll receive hands-on training on state-of-the-art flexographic and digital printing presses while working alongside experienced operators. No prior printing experience required - we're looking for mechanical aptitude and a strong desire to learn!

Key Responsibilities

• Learn to set up and operate flexographic printing presses under supervision of senior operators
• Assist with mounting printing plates and anilox rolls
• Learn digital press operation including file preparation and color management basics
• Monitor print quality during production runs and alert operators to any issues
• Perform basic press maintenance including cleaning, lubrication, and component replacement
• Mix and maintain ink systems according to color specifications
• Learn to read and interpret job tickets and production specifications
• Assist with material handling including loading substrates and unloading finished rolls
• Maintain accurate production records and quality documentation
• Support changeovers between jobs to minimize downtime
• Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment

Training Program Includes

• Comprehensive orientation to flexographic and digital printing technologies
• Hands-on press operation training progressing from simple to complex jobs
• Color theory and ink system management
• Substrate knowledge and handling techniques
• Quality control procedures and measurement tools
• Preventive maintenance and troubleshooting
• Safety certification and lockout/tagout procedures
• Opportunity to work toward Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) certification

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
• Basic math skills including fractions, decimals, and measurements
• Ability to distinguish colors accurately (will be tested)
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
• Willingness to learn and take direction
• Reliable attendance and punctuality
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Basic computer skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical school coursework in printing, manufacturing, or mechanical fields
• Experience with hand tools and measuring instruments
• Previous manufacturing or production experience
• Familiarity with quality control concepts

Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk for up to 10 hours per day
• Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs
• Climb ladders and platforms to access press components
• Work with chemicals and solvents (with proper PPE)
• Manual dexterity for precise adjustments
• Visual acuity to detect print defects and color variations
