Responsibilities:This position provides strategic leadership to foster the growth, clinical excellence, financial strength, and operational efficiency of Behavioral Health Services. This role involves designing, developing, and implementing a strategic plan that promotes the program's economic health and operational performance while facilitating successful expansion. This person leads a multidisciplinary Behavioral Health team and collaborates closely with the Medical Director nursing leadership and entity leadership staff to maintain an effective and collaborative clinical environment. Additionally, this role oversees overall operations, ensuring that goals and objectives align with Behavioral Health leadership, facility leadership, and Piedmont system leadership.
What you will do
- Leadership & Staff Management: • Select, assess, develop, coach, and counsel Behavioral Health staff to align with Piedmont’s mission, vision, and values. • Foster a collaborative and supportive environment to promote high standards of care and team performance. • Motivate, lead, and mentor a high-performance team; attract, recruit, and retain staff with a strong emphasis on employee engagement. • Participate in recruitment for all positions needed for BH programs. • Monitor and assess department productivity; evaluate staffing and provide input for proformas.
- Clinical Program Oversight: • Develop and implement clinical programs that meet patient needs and align with organizational goals. • Oversee both inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services, ensuring seamless integration and continuity of care. • Collaborate with RN leadership and medical providers to create a clinically excellent and supportive environment. • Ensure local intake processes are efficient, effective and clinically sound. • Facilitate integration of new applications and upgrades as appropriate.
- Quality and Compliance: • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards. • Implement quality assurance measures and conduct regular reviews to maintain high standards of clinical practice. • Support the hospital’s continuous quality improvement plan and coordinate BH quality initiatives with the facility. • Oversee Utilization Review (UR) processes for local programs to ensure appropriate care and resource use.
- Financial & Operational Management: • Oversee financial performance, including budgeting, resource allocation, and cost management. • Review operating results, compare to objectives, and take corrective actions as needed. • Provide timely, accurate, and complete reports on service operations and performance metrics. • Proficient in Tableau dashboards to report and monitor operational metrics.
- Operational Growth & Strategic: • Identify opportunities for new behavioral health services and enhancements to existing programs that better meet the evolving needs of the community. • Lead the planning and implementation of new service lines or program expansions, ensuring alignment with community needs, clinical best practices, and organizational strategy. • Collaborate closely with finance and operations teams to develop comprehensive, data driven business cases that support proposed initiatives. • Monitor market trends, patient feedback, and service utilization data to inform strategic decisions and ensure the program remains responsive and relevant. • Ensure that all growth initiatives are executed with operational excellence, fiscal responsibility, and measurable outcomes.
- Community Engagement & Outreach: • Represent the Behavioral Health Service Line professionally with internal and external stakeholders. • Develop and maintain communication tools and outreach strategies to connect the community with BH services. • Partner with community outreach and education to promote BH services through conferences, workshops, and events. • Work with other departments and community partners to integrate behavioral health services for comprehensive care.
- Strategic & Cross – Functional Collaboration: • Cultivate positive relationships across the organization, including medical staff and executive leadership. • Provide support and expertise to other departments and leadership as needed. • Participate in cross-functional teams and contribute to organizational initiatives.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare management, Behavioral Health, or in related field Required or
- In Lieu of the bachelor's degree, an associate degree with an additional two (2) years of relevant work experience will be accepted in addition to the experience requirement below. Required
- Master’s Degree Preferred
Work Experience
- 7 years of recent experience in behavioral health, healthcare management, med/surg setting or related field of which at least two (2) years must be in a direct management role over healthcare professionals and/or leadership role Required or
- 9 years of experience required with an associate's degree. Required
Licenses and Certifications
- Current state licensure in clinical field Preferred
