Job Description
The Claim Letter Writer for NWIA (Nuclear Workers Institute of America) is responsible for developing clear, accurate, and well‐researched written documentation that supports authorization to pursue claims through the U.S. Department of Energy under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA). This position acts as a professional liaison between NWIA and the Department of Labor, which administers EEOICPA benefits.
The Claim Letter Writer ensures that all written submissions and records are handled in alignment with professional standards, confidentiality requirements, and Company Policies & Procedures. This position reports directly to the NWIA Director of Operations and follows the established chain of command. The Claim Letter Writer is expected to maintain strong communication skills and consistently support a positive, collaborative working environment.
Essential Responsibilities
• Research, writes, and prepares high‐quality claim letters that clearly communicate the medical evidence supporting clients’ eligibility to file claims under the EEOICPA.
• Conducts thorough case reviews and performs independent research to ensure accuracy, completeness, and medical credibility in all documentation.
• Submits rebuttal or supplemental letters when required, providing additional supporting evidence to strengthen a claim.
• Strictly adheres to HIPAA policies and guidelines, ensuring protection and confidentiality of clinical records and all protected health information.
• Maintains current knowledge of relevant chapters of the EEOICPA Procedure Manual and stays informed of program changes or regulatory updates.
• Represents NWIA with professionalism during all written and verbal interactions with government agencies and external parties.
• Builds effective working relationships with NWIA management and staff through clear communication and mutual accountability.
• Supports and promotes all Company Policies & Procedures.
• Performs other job‐related duties as assigned.
Required Education, Skills, and Qualifications
• Medical knowledge of anatomy and disease processes.
• Strong interest in writing and researching —must enjoy drafting written material and synthesizing complex medical or regulatory information into clear, accurate statements.
• Excellent writing, editing, organizational, and time‐management skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Professional, courteous, compassionate, and customer‐focused demeanor.
• Highly trustworthy, discreet, and able to handle confidential information responsibly.
• Proficient computer and internet research skills.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and proof of current vehicle insurance.
