The Ophthalmic Assistant supports ophthalmologists by performing preliminary patient work-ups, diagnostic testing, and clinical procedures. This role is critical in ensuring a high standard of patient care and clinical efficiency in a fast-paced ophthalmology setting. The ideal candidate is patient-focused, detail-oriented, and committed to learning and growing in the eye care field.
Requirements: Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Greet and escort patients to exam rooms, verifying patient information and documenting chief complaints and medical history.
- Measure and record visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and basic ocular measurements.
- Assist in administering eye drops, dilation, and anesthetic agents under physician direction.
- Perform and assist with diagnostic tests such as OCT, visual fields, fundus photography, topography, and other imaging procedures.
- Prepare patients and assist the physician during examinations and minor procedures.
- Accurately document examination findings and physician orders in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms, equipment, and instruments.
- Provide pre- and post-operative patient education and answer general questions regarding treatment plans.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and infection control guidelines.
- Participate in ongoing training and certification efforts to enhance skills and meet organizational requirements.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an ophthalmic assistant training program preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a clinical or ophthalmic setting is a plus.
- COA (Certified Ophthalmic Assistant) certification preferred or willingness to obtain within a designated timeframe.

- Comfort using EMR systems and standard ophthalmic equipment.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
