Position Summary:

Under the leadership of the Director, Dialysis, the Dialysis Technician is an active member of the department that assists the Director, Dialysis and staff in the delivery of dialysis services and care. The Dialysis Technician operates the hemodialysis device during the dialysis treatment and observes, monitors and records significant signs during dialysis procedures. The Technician takes and records patient’s vital signs prior to, during and after the dialysis treatment, and assesses the patient’s condition for complications occurring during the dialysis procedure.

The Dialysis Technician transports patients to the dialysis area and positions patients on the hemodialysis machine. The Technician attaches the tubes and dialyzer prior to treatment and removes them after treatment. The Technician inspects arterial and venous demands as registered on device to make sure that pressures are within standard boundaries.

Basic Qualifications:

• Education:

Requires a high school diploma or a GED state certification and the successful completion of a Hemodialysis Technician program.

• Experience:

Requires up to one year of work-related experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

• Licensure, Registrations & Certifications:

Requires and maintains a Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) or Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) a certification.

Requires and maintains a certification in Basic Life Saving (BLS). (If BLS certification is not current upon hire, it must be obtained within three (3) months of hire.)

Essential Job Responsibilities:

• Installs and operates the hemodialysis device for dialysis treatment for kidney failure patients.
• Observes, monitors and records significant signs during dialysis procedures.
• Takes and records patient’s vital signs prior to, during and after the dialysis treatment, and assesses the patient’s condition for complications occurring during the dialysis procedure.
• Transfers patients to the dialysis area and positions them on the hemodialysis machine, attaches tubes and dialyzer to device prior to treatment and removes them after treatment.
• Inspects arterial and venous demands as registered on device to make sure that pressures are within standard boundaries.
• Explains function of device and dialysis procedure to patients after dialysis treatment to reduce stress.
• Inspects equipment configurations such as heat range, conductivity and pressures to make sure there is conformity to safety requirements.
• Cleans area of access like fistula, and graft using antiseptic solutions.
• Performs normal maintenance on the equipment and runs tests to ensure equipment is functioning properly.
• Functions as part of an interdisciplinary team promoting positive interpersonal communication skills when communicating with patients, families, visitors, physicians and staff in all departments of the organization.
• Complies with CRHS and department safety, infection control and performance improvement initiatives and sterile procedures ensuring the safe delivery of care and services.
• Presents a professional image to CRHS nursing and medical staff members.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.
