Trailer Mechanic
Perform miscellaneous repairs and preventive maintenance on trailers to maintain a safe and efficient fleet.
Responsibilities- Perform complete routine, diagnostic, and repair inspections on trailers for any damage, and notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective actions taken.
- Comply with all established industry safety norms and other quality control measures while conducting work processes.
- Perform regular servicing and maintenance of equipment and document all repairs in the maintenance software system.
- Maintain and perform repairs on air brake system, suspension, landing gear, foundation brakes, electrical, coupler system, decking, understructure, etc.
- Weld repairs in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Perform minor repairs on terminal tractors.
- Conduct test drives to ensure equipment is functioning properly.
- Provide assistance to other mechanics as needed.
- Comply with company and agency policies and procedures. Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Complete required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Experience with hand tools and pneumatic tools.
- Proficiency in repair, hydraulics, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of structural repair, air brake systems, and suspension.
- Ability to perform fabrication, including MIG and TIG welding, and fitting.
- Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
- Basic computer skills for diagnostics and record-keeping.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and perform physical tasks such as stooping, climbing, and kneeling.
- Ownership of a complete set of quality hand tools is preferred.
