Barista

The Barista is responsible for providing coffee/tea and table services to residents and guests in the community’s dining rooms and designated areas in accordance with Thrive Senior Living standards. They are responsible for proper beverage, and dining services and the cleaning of Café and equipment. Baristas are responsible for having knowledge of all beverages served, as well as general knowledge of premium coffee and teas offered.
Essential Responsibilities:
The following job functions have been determined to be essential to the position. Management reserves the right to modify this list and other functions as deemed necessary.
- Has knowledge of coffee and tea items and can provide a general description to the residents and guests.
- Uses espresso machine, blender, etc. with familiarity for drink options.
- Assists residents with menu selections and responds to pertinent questions about menu items.
- Responsible for taking beverage orders and serving requested items according to established guidelines.
- Responds to the needs of the residents and guests while maintaining Thrive hospitality and service standards.
- Follows all local, state, and federal policies regarding food handling.
- Maintains all tables, tabletop surfaces, and the surrounding area in a complete state of cleanliness, appearance, and readiness.
- Cleans and purges the steam wand after each use.
- Frequently wiping down espresso machines, grinders, and all counter spaces.
- Supports the dining room decorum and etiquette standards.
- Performs and completes opening and closing checklist criteria.
- Performs and completes side work duties as assigned.
- Maintains and protects the confidentiality of resident information, always.
- Safe food handling is practiced at all times to prevent an outbreak of foodborne illness.
- Completes daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning assignments.
- Maintains all work areas in a healthful and safe condition.
- Assists in the dining room and surrounding areas for proper directional flow, organization, and supplies placement.
- Partners with community team to ensure the community is in compliance with OSHA requirements and promotion of Risk Management programs and policies; adherence to safety rules and regulations.
- Practices safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire extinguishers, MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets), and Lockout Tag-out procedures.
- Actively participates as a member of a team and committed to working toward team goals.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Oral Communication: Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations. Listens carefully and gets clarification. Responds well to questions.
- Teamwork: Balances team and individual responsibilities, exhibiting objectivity, and openness to the views of others. Contributes to building a positive team spirit.
- Planning and Time Utilization: Consistently plan/coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency without sacrificing quality, accuracy, and customer service. Meets deadlines in completing job assignments and special projects.
- Written Skills: Writes clearly and informatively, edits work for spelling and grammar, varies writing style to meet needs, presents numerical data effectively, and can read and interpret written information.
Education and Experience:
- It is required that the Barista has a minimum educational background of a High School diploma or GED. It is required that the Barista holds a current CPR certification.
- It is preferred that the Barista has previous experience as a Barista and/or coffee service industry. Training will be provided for every level.
