Head of Enterprise Architecture

Overview

Bellwood is seeking a Head of Enterprise Architecture to support our client in defining and executing the next generation of architecture and engineering capabilities across their platforms and products.

This role will oversee the architectural strategy and technology vision for the organization — driving innovation, ensuring scalability, and leading a team of architects and technical leaders to deliver high-impact solutions. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in software architecture, cloud technologies, and modern engineering practices, along with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and communicate the long-term technology vision, architecture standards, and development best practices.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, and Business leaders to align architectural priorities with strategic goals.
• Define and evolve the technical ecosystem, with a focus on integrated payment platforms and enterprise-level scalability.
• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of architects and senior engineers, fostering collaboration and technical excellence.
• Evaluate and recommend architectural solutions, clearly outlining both technical and business implications.
• Advocate for architectural investments and modernization efforts to enhance delivery speed, agility, and quality.
• Ensure alignment between enterprise and product-level architecture initiatives.
• Support continuous improvement across delivery, ensuring resilient, efficient, and interoperable systems that integrate seamlessly with partner and customer environments.
  
  

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 15+ years of experience in Agile software development and architecture.
• 10+ years designing and delivering multi-tier enterprise applications.
• 5+ years of experience leading architecture or engineering teams.
• Demonstrated expertise in at least three of the following: Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architecture, Cloud (AWS preferred), Infrastructure, Design Patterns, Messaging, Mobile, or Multi-Tenant Architecture.
  
  

Preferred:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of payments or fintech industry experience leading payment architecture initiatives.
• Strong understanding of payment systems, platforms, and business models.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and collaborate across technical and business functions.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills, with a track record of driving results in fast-paced environments.
