Controls & Automation Engineer - Braselton, GA

Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled Controls & Automation Engineer to support the design, development, programming, integration, and commissioning of advanced automation systems. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining industrial control systems, robotics integration, CNC programming, and machine automation solutions that support manufacturing efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Fanuc CNC and PMC programming , PLC-based automation, robotics integration, electrical controls, and industrial machine troubleshooting. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge automation technologies while supporting projects from concept through installation and customer startup.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, program, and troubleshoot industrial automation and electrical control systems for custom machinery.
  • Develop, modify, and maintain Fanuc CNC and PMC control systems .
  • Program, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC, HMI, SCADA, and distributed control systems .
  • Design and implement automation solutions to improve manufacturing efficiency, reliability, and quality.
  • Perform root cause analysis on automation failures and implement corrective actions.

Robotics & System Integration:

  • Integrate industrial robots including Fanuc, ABB, Yaskawa, KUKA, Universal Robots , and similar platforms into automated machinery.
  • Program robotic cells, coordinate robot motion, and integrate end-of-arm tooling.
  • Develop and maintain safety circuits and ensure proper communication between robots, PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, and CNC controls.
  • Support vision inspection system integration and automated inspection processes.

Electrical Design & Documentation:

  • Design electrical control panels, wiring layouts, and system architecture.
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Develop control panel layouts and system modifications using AutoCAD and SolidWorks .
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.

Machine Startup, Testing & Support:

  • Perform machine startup, testing, validation, and commissioning activities.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and controls-related issues during assembly, testing, and field installations.
  • Support machine installations, service calls, and customer startup activities.
  • Train customers on machine operation, controls systems, and maintenance procedures.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering, assembly, manufacturing, and service teams to complete projects successfully.
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives through automation optimization, waste reduction, and process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable quality and safety standards, including CGMP principles where applicable.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Experience as a Controls Engineer, Automation Engineer, Electrical Engineer, or similar role.
  • Strong experience with Fanuc CNC and PMC programming .
  • Proficiency in PLC programming and HMI development.
  • Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems and automation controls.
  • Experience troubleshooting automation equipment and industrial machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of servo systems, motors, sensors, industrial networking, and machine controls.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a cross-functional team environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs .
  • Experience integrating industrial robots into manufacturing equipment.
  • Familiarity with SCADA and distributed control systems.
  • Experience with vision inspection systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Understanding of CGMP or regulated manufacturing environments.

Travel & Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel approximately 30%for customer installations, commissioning, and service support.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. Passport or be eligible to obtain one.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

Schedule:

  • Monday – Friday
  • 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Overtime may be required based on project schedules, customer demands, and travel requirements.
