THE OPPORTUNITY

The Junior Consultant – Data Engineering is 3Ci’s entry point into the Data Engineering practice — a client-embedded team member who supports data pipeline development, data quality analysis, and analytics delivery under structured senior mentorship. This role is designed to develop the next generation of data engineering professionals through hands-on exposure to modern data platforms, cloud data tools, and AI-assisted data workflows from day one.
You’ll learn the craft of data engineering by doing: writing SQL and Python transformations, supporting pipeline builds, documenting data models, and contributing to real client deliverables. Exceptional performers advance to independent workstream ownership within 18–24 months.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Data Pipeline & Platform Support

• Support the development and testing of data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows under senior direction
• Write and maintain SQL queries, data transformations, and basic Python scripts for data processing tasks
• Assist in configuring and monitoring data pipeline tools (dbt, Azure Data Factory, Airflow) under guidance
• Contribute to data ingestion, transformation, and loading tasks across source systems and target platforms
• Perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality checks on pipeline outputs

Data Documentation & Analysis

• Document data models, data dictionaries, lineage diagrams, and pipeline architecture under senior direction
• Assist in profiling source data: assessing completeness, accuracy, consistency, and volume characteristics
• Support the preparation of data analysis reports, data quality assessments, and platform discovery summaries
• Maintain technical documentation repositories with version control discipline

Client & Stakeholder Support

• Build working relationships with client data and analytics team members under senior coaching
• Prepare workshop materials, data discovery session outputs, and stakeholder documentation
• Document client data requirements, business rules, and data quality expectations accurately

AI-Assisted Data Engineering

• Use AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT) to accelerate SQL and Python development, data transformation logic, and documentation drafting
• Apply AI tools to generate initial data model documentation, pipeline design summaries, and data quality rule specifications — all subject to human review before use
• Learn 3Ci’s AI usage standards for data engineering: output quality review requirements, data privacy considerations, and acceptable use guidelines
• Participate in team AI training programs and contribute observations to team AI tool assessments

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field
• 0–2 years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics, or a technology environment
• Foundational SQL proficiency: joins, aggregations, window functions, CTEs
• Basic Python or scripting experience for data manipulation tasks
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) or data warehousing concepts
• Demonstrated use of AI coding assistants in academic or professional development work
• Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and data quality awareness

Preferred Certifications & Credentials

• dbt Fundamentals certification (dbt Labs) — free and actively encouraged
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Fundamentals (DP-900)
• AWS Cloud Practitioner or Google Cloud Digital Leader
• Databricks Certified Associate Developer for Apache Spark
• Coursera / DataCamp: Data Engineering, Data Pipelines, or equivalent structured program
• Formal AI coding training: GitHub Copilot certification, Coursera Generative AI for Developers, or equivalent
