About the CompanyTrophy Point is a fast-growing private lender specializing in business-purpose real estate loans including fix & flip, bridge, multifamily, and small-balance commercial loans. We support real estate investors and business owners by providing fast, flexible capital, strong communication, and full-cycle lending support from origination through servicing.
Role Overview
The Director of Lending is a senior leadership role responsible for end-to-end oversight of Trophy Point’s lending function , including both Sales-focused Loan Originators and Credit / Loan Origination Operations .
This role exists to remove operational and people-management burden from the COO , allowing executive leadership to focus on company growth, capital strategy, and external relationships—while ensuring the lending organization operates with discipline, consistency, and accountability.
The ideal candidate brings formal people-management training from banking, commercial lending, or regulated financial institutions, paired with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving private lending environment.
This is not a quota-carrying sales role , but it does require strong commercial judgment, credibility with originators, and a deep understanding of how loans move from prospect to close.
Core Objectives of the Role
- Build and lead a high-functioning lending organization
- Ensure consistent execution across sales origination and loan processing
- Develop managers and originators, not just oversee output
- Create structure, cadence, and accountability where scale is occurring
- Serve as the single point of leadership across lending functions
- Elevate performance without burnout or chaos
Key Responsibilities
Lending Organization Leadership
- Provide direct leadership to:
- Sales / Loan Origination Managers
- Loan Originators (sales-oriented and credit-oriented)
- Establish clear roles, expectations, and performance standards
- Create a culture of accountability, professionalism, and collaboration
- Coach managers on people leadership, not just deal volume
Sales & Origination Oversight (Non-Selling)
- Oversee pipeline health, conversion quality, and borrower experience
- Ensure originators focus on repeat, high-quality borrowers , not one-off deals
- Partner with Sales Managers to:
- Set realistic production targets
- Balance growth with credit discipline
- Intervene in complex or stalled deals as an executive problem-solver—not as a salesperson
Credit, Process & Risk Alignment
- Ensure lending practices align with company risk appetite and capital strategy
- Partner with underwriting and operations to:
- Reduce friction between sales and credit
- Improve cycle times without compromising quality
- Bring structured decision-making common to banking environments into private lending execution
Team Development & Performance Management
- Hire, develop, and retain strong lending professionals
- Identify skill gaps and implement training and coaching plans
- Conduct performance reviews and succession planning
- Address underperformance decisively and professionally
Operational Cadence & Reporting
- Implement consistent rhythms:
- Pipeline reviews
- Performance dashboards
- Team meetings
- Provide leadership with clear, actionable reporting on:
- Loan volume
- Conversion rates
- Team performance
- Risk trends
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Serve as the primary liaison between lending, operations, marketing, and capital markets
- Reduce reliance on executive escalation by resolving issues at the director level
- Represent the lending organization internally with executive maturity
What This Role Is Not
- Not a commission-driven sales role
- Not a “super originator” position
- Not a passive oversight role
This role requires active leadership , structured thinking, and strong people management.
Ideal Background & Experience
- 10–15+ years in commercial lending, banking, or structured finance
- Proven experience managing lending teams , not just producing loans
- Background in:
- Commercial banking
- Credit management
- Institutional lending
- Regulated financial environments
- Strong understanding of:
- Credit decisioning
- Loan lifecycle management
- Sales-credit alignment
- Experience transitioning teams through growth or change
- Executive presence and sound judgment under pressure
Private lending experience is a plus, but strong banking leadership experience is often preferred due to formal management training.
Why Join Trophy Point- Fully Remote Job Opportunity
- Work with an ambitious and rapidly growing lender in a high-demand niche.
- Opportunity for meaningful commission upside based on performance.
- Collaborative team with end-to-end operational support (origination → underwriting → closing → servicing).
- Long-term remote work with growth potential.
