Crisis Stabilization Unit Nurse Manager
JOB DESCRIPTION:
A. PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Provide nursing care, monitor the condition of individuals and recognize changes in condition, implement appropriate interventions, provide continuity of care, and client safety. Schedule, supervise and support staff. Assist with making decisions regarding the daily functioning of the CSU including resolving crisis situations and staffing issues/call offs. Monitor and utilize the BHL Board to maintain unit census. Assist Program Director as needed with reports and monitoring of unit and documentation.
B. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision.
- Serves as job expert or organization resource in assigned areas.
- Supervises and supports staff.
- May administer and transcribe prescribed medications per medication policies.
- Records nursing notes, all aspects of admissions and discharges, and participates in treatment team.
- Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate client care plans.
- Maintains accurate, detailed reports and client records.
- Modifies client treatment plans as indicated by clients' responses and conditions.
- Observes nurses and clients to ensure that proper nursing care is provided.
- Monitors all aspects of client care, records and reports symptoms and changes in clients' conditions.
- Prepares clients for, and assists with, examinations and treatments.
- Ensures that stock of supplies is maintained.
- Provides health care, first aid, immunizations and assistance in convalescence and rehabilitation.
- Provides education to client and family.
- Provides training for staff.
- Coordinates the activities of the unit and is responsible for assigning work to the nursing staff.
- Identifies issues or emergencies and responds in a calm and efficient manner.
- Deescalates potentially volatile situations involving clients or co-workers.
- Reports concerns about patient care, the work environment, or co-worker performance to management personnel in a timely and accurate manner.
- Assists with making decisions regarding the daily functioning of the CSU including resolving staffing issues/call offs and complete the staff schedule.
- Ensures that appropriate staffing levels are maintained, and maintains a safe working environment.
- Monitors and utilizes BHL Board to maintain an appropriate unit census.
- Reviews all referrals with providers in a timely and accurate manner.
- Communicates any change in bed status, census, and staffing with Program Director and Region 2 Administration.
C. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reviews and ensures implementation of all rules/regulations of accrediting, review bodies per contracts or certifications i.e.; DBHDD, Rules/Regulations of CSU, CARF, HFR, etc.
- Participates in any external review/audits.
- Works as a collaborative with Program Director, Medical Director and outside agencies regarding provision of services.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
A. Education and Training:
- Current Georgia license to practice as a registered professional nurse AND One year of professional nursing experience.
- Preferred Qualifications - 3 years of Nursing Supervisory experience.
B. Technical Competencies:
- Ability to assess, plan for, and provide basic nursing skills; knows procedures including developing, implementing and revising plan of care.
- Knowledge of nursing policies, procedures, protocols, treatments, standards of care and nurse practice act.
- Knowledge of the procedures for medication administration and can administer oral, sublingual, SQ and IM medications; knowledge of pharmacology.
- Knowledge of immunization regulations and protocols.
- Ability to perform CPR and for some sites, AED.
- Skills in supervision/leadership, including team leadership, performance management, training/teaching, decision making and delegation; knowledge of employee job classifications and responsibilities.

- Attends work schedule as assigned.
- Follows all policies and procedures regarding dress code.
- Follows all policies and procedures regarding utilization of PTO.
- Follows all policies and procedures regarding professional conduct and ethics.
- Ensures patient referrals are reviewed in a timely manner on electronic pending board and staffed with physician extender.
- Ensures census is at full capacity.
- Will ensure all staff on shift are following policies and procedures.
- Will report any policy/procedure violations by staff to program director and medical director.
