About the Position

Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years Med/Tele RN experience required License: Required Certifications: BLS required; ACLS preferred Must-Have: Certification in Med Surg is a plus Description: RN position focused on MedSurg and Telemetry care. The facility features 637 licensed beds and holds a Level 1 Trauma Designation. It serves as a teaching hospital and is designated as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. Patient types include all inpatient med-surg populations with common diagnoses such as acute or chronic diseases and co-morbidities like diabetes and hypertension. Expect to care for cardiac patients, including post-cath and CHF cases, as well as post-surgical patients in general, orthopedic, and trauma categories. Patient ratios are as follows: RN 1:4-6, LPN 1:4-6, and CNA up to 1:14. Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, IV maintenance, and strong assessment and time management abilities. Familiarity with care coordination, discharge planning, and patient education is essential. Telemetry skills are necessary for monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms. Experience with specific drips such as insulin, heparin, and amiodarone is required. Support roles include CNAs for vital checks, baths, and patient safety, as well as resource staff floating across units as needed. Technology used includes an EMR system, IV pumps, and specialized monitoring equipment. Weekend rotation requires working 5-6 shifts out of 12 in a 6-week schedule. Holiday expectations involve working one shift of each major holiday. RTO requests must go through management for approval. Unit culture is busy and team-oriented.
