[26-27] Atlanta, GA EC Adaptive Teacher (Certified)

Movement Foundation
Atlanta, GA

OUR MISSION

Movement Schools is a growing network of free, public charter schools. We exist to love and value scholars and communities by leading a movement of excellence in education. In partnership with our families, we equip our scholars with the tools to close generational gaps through self-efficacy, access to world-class instruction, and financial education.

About This Role

See Every Scholar. Serve Every Learner. Believe in Every Possibility.

At Movement Schools, we believe every scholar — including scholars with significant cognitive disabilities — deserves rigorous, joyful, and dignifying instruction. We are seeking a passionate, mission-aligned K-5 Adapted Curriculum Teacher to join our Georgia school community and serve scholars whose learning needs are supported through the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA 2.0) track.

As a K-5 Adapted Curriculum Teacher, you will design and lead specialized instruction aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence Extended Content Standards — building scholar communication, functional academic, and life skills through evidence-based, individualized approaches. You’ll partner with families, classroom teachers, related-service providers, and paraprofessionals to ensure every scholar in your care grows in ways that are meaningful, measurable, and rooted in dignity. When not in session with scholars, you will support school-wide operations to keep our campus running smoothly.

What You’ll Do

You’ll lead instruction that honors every scholar’s potential — and delivers meaningful, measurable growth.

As a K-5 Adapted Curriculum Teacher, you will:

  • Plan and deliver standards-aligned K-5 instruction grounded in the Georgia Standards of Excellence Extended Content Standards, aligned to the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA 2.0) track

  • Design individualized instruction that builds scholar skill in communication, functional academics (reading, writing, mathematics), independence, and life skills

  • Use evidence-based practices for scholars with significant cognitive disabilities — including systematic instruction, task analysis, discrete trial teaching, prompting hierarchies, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and visual supports

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) — including present levels of performance, measurable annual goals, service delivery, accommodations, modifications, and progress reporting

  • Serve as IEP case manager for assigned scholars: schedule and lead IEP meetings, coordinate with families and outside providers, and ensure all documentation meets IDEA and GaDOE requirements

  • Administer the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA 2.0) with fidelity and prepare scholar portfolios or performance tasks as required

  • Collect and analyze scholar data to make instructional decisions and demonstrate progress toward IEP goals

  • Supervise, coach, and support the paraprofessionals assigned to your classroom to ensure consistent implementation of instruction, behavior supports, and safety protocols

  • Design and implement positive behavior supports and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) in partnership with the Exceptional Children team and families

  • Partner with related-service providers (speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, adapted PE, etc.) to integrate services and reinforce goals across the school day

  • Manage sensory, communication, and physical accommodations — including AAC devices, adaptive seating, feeding protocols, and toileting supports — with dignity and care

  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with families rooted in respect for their expertise as their scholar’s first teacher

  • Uphold and reinforce Movement Schools’ culture of high expectations, urgency, and joy

  • Participate in coaching cycles, professional development, and grade-level planning

  • Support school-wide operations during non-instructional blocks — including arrival and dismissal duties, family engagement events, and other operational needs as assigned

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a passionate, mission-aligned educator who sees every scholar’s potential and delivers instruction with warmth, skill, and structure.

You’ll thrive in this role if you:

  • Believe in the potential of every scholar — including scholars with significant cognitive disabilities

  • Bring warmth, patience, structure, and joy to your classroom every day

  • Are reliable, organized, and detail-oriented — IEP paperwork, data collection, and compliance require it

  • Communicate clearly with scholars at all levels of communication ability, with families, and with adult colleagues

  • Lead paraprofessionals with respect, clarity, and coaching

  • Are coachable, reflective, and open to feedback

  • Are comfortable with physical, personal-care, and behavioral aspects of the role, including toileting, feeding, positioning, and behavior de-escalation

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment

Required Qualifications

Your background and credentials meet Georgia’s requirements to serve scholars with significant cognitive disabilities.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Adapted Curriculum, or a related field from an accredited college or university

  • Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) Induction, Professional, or Provisional certificate in Special Education Adapted Curriculum (P–12) — OR eligibility to obtain through GaPSC Pathway 1–4, including the GaTAPP (Georgia Teacher Academy of Preparation and Pedagogy) alternative pathway

  • Passing score on the GACE Special Education Adapted Curriculum content assessment, or willingness to obtain prior to certification

  • Passing score on the GACE Ethics for Teachers Assessment

  • Working knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and the Georgia Rules for the Education of Students with Disabilities

  • Working knowledge of the Georgia Standards of Excellence Extended Content Standards and the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA 2.0)

  • Compliance with GaPSC Rule 505-2-.42 — a valid Georgia Clearance Certificate (required for all charter school educators with direct student contact)

  • Completion of an FBI fingerprint-based criminal background check as required for employment in Georgia public, private, and charter schools

  • Ability to lift, position, and physically support scholars as required (up to 50 lbs, with team support for heavier lifts)

  • Commitment to Movement Schools’ mission, values, and high expectations for all scholars

Preferred Qualifications

Experience or training that supports your readiness for this role is a plus.

  • Prior teaching experience in an elementary (K-5) school setting serving scholars with significant cognitive disabilities

  • Experience administering the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA 2.0)

  • Training in evidence-based practices for scholars with significant cognitive disabilities (Applied Behavior Analysis, TEACCH, PECS, Unique Learning System, Attainment Company curricula, etc.)

  • Training in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems (e.g., TouchChat, Proloquo2Go, LAMP)

  • Certification or training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI), Safety-Care, or Mandt

  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Adapted Curriculum, Applied Behavior Analysis, or a related field

  • Experience supervising or coaching paraprofessionals

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

  • CPR/First Aid certification
